Started 1st go + need some help please!!?

Post by Kel »

Hello!

First of all I just want to say how helpful reading all of your posts has been to me in preparing for this! So thank you...

I had my down reg injection yesterday and just have a couple of questions if anyone can help.. I have been told not to exercise now it's all started, but slightly unsure as to where to draw the line or why exercise is bad anyway? Sorry if sounds stupid but I just want to get it right and not used to sitting still!

Also, I decided I would totally cut out caffine, but my Nurse has said that it's fine if it's not overdone. Has anyone had different advice? (I'm not a total caffine head but scarey how nice+needed that 1 proper cup of tea is needed in the morning!!!).

Thanks so much! Wishing everyone loads of luck at every stage!!

exercise and coffee

Post by Bronagh »

hi,

Why dont you join the May cycle buddies??/ Anyway Ex ercise : I have a great book called fertility and conception by Zita West who is a midwife/nutrinist/acupuncturist it has a great section on preparing for IVF . She says that Exercise moves the bloodflow away from your uterus and into other areas of the body so can detract from all the things the drugs are preparing you for. You dont have to stop altogether but they say aerobic execise is bad so try walking, yoga or swimming.

Coffee

Caffeine robs the body of water and valuable minerals and stimulates the body to produce cortisol which competes for the receptor sites of progesterone, causing deficiency. A moderate to high caffine intake -more than one a day can increase the time it takes to concieve by up to 50 percent

Tea is not as bad but like you thought I could not give it up in the morning. But I'm fine now and drink juices and herbal teas later in the day. The way I see it its a small price to pay but everyone finds there own way of coping with it all.

Anyway hope things go ok for you

regards
Bro

Hope everything is going well for you??

Thanks again,

hihi kelly, i was new to this site late last year and found it a god send.
Mind you, u can read too much, as every clinic seems to have different
ideas. Regarding excerise i played golf right up to et and was then told
to take it easy. As for caffine, reading some of the replys some girls
stopped completely some didnt, i think you should follow the advise
from the clinic and do what u feel is right.
wishing u lots of luck alisonn

As an bit of an old hand at this IVF lark I have tried most things and come to the conclusion that as long as you are not daft about anything then it comes down to numbers and luck I am afraid. I am a big believer in not giving your body a huge shock - ie carry on pretty much as before so if you are active just swap to gently walking etc rather than stop altogether and if you do sod all then carry on doing sod all. The changes often if they are dramatic send our bodies in to a What the hell is going on here mode! As for caffeine -well I certainly cut out coffee - was hard at first but loads of it gave me breathing problems anyway! I could not give up my first tea in the morning and never have - out of 5 tmts I have been pg 3 times so don;t worry about tea. I went on to herbal tea the rest of the time and squash and water - all very exciting. I did cut down on the choccie but this was a nightmare but did it for the 2ww! Horrid as I eat choccie for Europe! You can drive yourself mad as I always feel the majority of it is out of our hands and I like some element of control and changing diets etc can give us that idea. Go with the flow and do what you are happy with as the mind is actually the key factor in the whole tmt! I had a glass of red wine on my 2ww and some blue cheese and am pg with good size twins!
Also just look at the Europeans - the french and italians do not give up their coffee or cheese or knowing the French (love em) anything at all and they have successful tmts
Good luck and join the others - they are a great bunch
Love
Tracey

Re caffeine. I was a huge coke drinker as well as coffee. I still have the odd cup with caffeine, but found that switching to decaff was no real hardship and I could still drink plenty of it without a guilt trip. Chocolate..... well thats another matter!

Hi Kelly

I switched to decaff too as in the grand scale of things cutting out caffeine for a short while is no hardship given what you can get at the end - a big fat positive!!

I am not a huge chocolate eater but it was difficult but again for a short while it shouldn't hurt.

As for exercise I am a lazy old dog so relished sitting around being waited on hand and foot  Going for a nice brisk walk will be fine, aerobics is a big no no.

Good luck

HI Kel
I think the main thing is to try and not make any massive changes to your lifestyle. exercise is fine (I found it really helpful and did quite alot up until ec) -although I stopped after et. Hoping to start again tomorrow

Caffeine -I think everything in moderation. I stuck to decaff coffee(only because I cant tell the difference, but still had caff tea. Sure its all fine,I was once told that decaf is actually worse for you because it so unnatural.
I tried as much as poss to carry on as normal - even had the odd glass of wine here and there too!

Take care - and welcome!
