Been for my scan - fluid in my tube

Post by Dolly »

Hi Guys, you know I said I was feeling pretty calm about everything... well I'm not now!!!

Firstly they said they could "possibly" see some fluid in my one remaining tube - but they couldn't be sure as that ovary and tube hide behind my uterus so are difficult to see. Plus they could "possibly" see what could be fluid in the uterus or could "possibly" be a v. early pregnancy. I had a blood test and have another one on Friday and that should tell them a little more.

Also, they said that if I do have fluid in the tube that would effect future treatment and I would have to have the tube removed before I could have further IVFs.

Does anyone know anything about fluid in the tubes?

AAAARRRGGGHHHH... why is life never simple. I really feel like crying! :(

Hi Dolly
Just read your post so sorry about your news but think they said there might be fluid in the uterus so that may well mean everything is OK. You will have to wait for the blood test results but it's still a positive and you are still pregnant  so hold on to that, I wish you all the best and pray that things work out for you. Will you get blood results tomorrow or just on Friday. Will be thinking of you.
take care

Oh Dolly

This is not a post I expected to see :( BUT like Aly has just said you are still PG which is a bonus and they are not sure where the fluid is so do hang onto that bit of news.

The only thing I know about fluid in tubes is that if you have damaged tubes you can get trapped fluid in them which can be a problem for a developing foetus. It is not a full gone conclusion and some people don't even know they have fluid in their tubes only us IVFers because we have scans on them all the bloody time. I had to have my tubes removed because they were so blocked and damaged that I was at a huge risk of ectopic and toxic fluid being trapped. Your fluid is just a possibility right now and they may be wrong.........................PMA, PMA!

Did they say how PG you are?? When do you get your results??

It never rains but pours with us lot eh? Try to keep calm - say's the biggest flapper on the board  Well Tracey is as well not just me.

Love and hugs Dagny xkx

Thanks for all your quick responses.

I have made a big mistake and started reading up about fluid in the tubes and am now in a right old state!

If that is what I have that could explain my 2 m/c. And in that case it doesn't hold out much hope for this one.

They don't know how pregnant I am - they won't be able to tell until they get blood results (which will be Friday afternoon at the earliest - but could be Monday!). I could be just pg - or I could be as far as 6 weeks if it is another ectopic.

I am trying hard to stay calm - but at the moment all I am thinking is doom and gloom.

Oh poor you - Dagny and I are both of the tube variety I am afraid. Let me try and throw a little light on it! I had or have - whatever - severely blocked tubes - first IVF was ectopic so they removed the embryo and the right tube - tried to get the left one out and it was stuck to my bowel and not good as have ulcerative colitis (which probably led to the tube problem in the first place  ) They clipped the other tube. Basically this limits the possibility of another ectopic - have to been very very very unlucky and so on! I have this fluid problem though hyroamniosis or something like that - I have had fluid in the tube for all my tmt. Basically they proceeded with my 2nd tmt after saying to me that it could leak out and go in to the uterus which may and I say may cause a m/c they forgot at that point my tube was clipped so the fluid would not leak to the uterus. Fluid comes and goes in tubes each month except with buggered ones we don;t always get to drain it off. You are pg and you may or may not have fluid in the tube which may or may not have leaked in to the uterus. Depends on how much there is blah blah blah. Many women go on to have a perfectly healthy pg with one tube and that one having leaked fluid. See what the bloods say and if the worst comes to the worst ask about having them clipped rather than removed as quicker.
Hang on to the fact you are pg - often the embryo does not get a chance to implant at all with fluid problems so it is a little fighter.
Good luck
Love
Tracey

Oh Dolly

It is the WORST thing to do reading up on the internet all about it. Stop it now as it won't do you any good. Sorry to nag but I found out after bitter experience that it is so detrimental to get too much information. I was on a 'Baby Loss' forum after Katelyn died and I nearly slit my wrists. Honestly Dolly no good will come of it. You will get yourself in such a state. There is nothing you can do until you see them on Friday and even then it is all down to nature.

It is a cruel twist of fate I know and I am sorry if I am being bossy but I just don't want you to be getting yourself in a state.

Gosh I have just read this back and I sound such a cow!!!! Sorry

Be strong Dolly. Thinking of you lots.

Hi Dolly,

Just wanted to tell you that I too had fluid in my tube & like Tracey had the tube clipped. Its the only tube I have. Lost the right ovary & tube 1993. Today just had ET on 1st attempt at IVF. Easier said than done but try not to worry too much. Everything will be fine. I will say a prayer for you. Take Care.

Best Wishes.

Hi Dolly,

Try to focus on the pregnancy, having fluid doesn't mean the end. They found fluid in my tubes (hydrosalphinx) after my 2nd attempt at IVF and I have since had them both clipped (better option, as simple day case procedure with no long period of recovery) and means no more fluid leakage into the uterus and no chance of an eptopic.

But, like Tracey said, your little one(s) have implanted and so must have a fighting chance. Usually the fluid goes once the ivf drugs have finished, it's usually the treatment that flares them up - so if they have suck around so far the fluid will probably go very soon and your pg will continue.

Wishing you all the luck.

Thanks girls for all your replies. I was really down last night... but I have woken up this morning feeling much happier about things. :D

Dagny, you will be pleased to hear that I will NOT be surfing the net anymore looking for info. You're right all it does is make you worry more. There is nothing I can do except wait and hope for the best.

I really appreciate all your support and don't I don't know what I would do without you all.

Thanks

Love to everyone

Hi Dolly - first of all wanted to say that I'm really hoping that this is your turn.

I'm another member of the "fluid in the tubes" crowd. After my first negative I had the tube clipped, after 3 more negatives (including two "low positives") I finally agreed to have the tube taken out all together, and while they were down there they discovered that the other tube also had fluid and took that out too. Sine then I've had two more -ves (one FET, one full cycle) and for the time being have run out of energy to go again.

My reason for posting is that if you need to look at future IVF cycles (and I really hope that you don't) to think carefully about having yuor remaining tube removed. It obviously works in some cases - Tracey being a good example, and also Dawn Blake who had her baby a while ago. But I must admit I sometimes wonder whether I did the right thing, knowing that I've cut off any chance (however slim) of conceiving naturally. And you know you can conceive.

Sorry, I realise that this probably isn't what you want to be reading right now, and I am hoping and praying that this really is your time. And as others have said, loads of women have healthy pregnancies without even knowing they've got fluid in their tubes. But I just wanted to put the other side of having your tube clipped/removed.

Much love

Hi Dolly,
Just wanted to say I am thinking of you and praying this pregnancy will be fine despite the fluid. I was so glad to read of your unexpected natural pregnancy! It is so terribly unfair that after this deslong awaited joy you have to suffer this setback, but try not to worry too much until the doctors can tell you more. I know this is easier said than done. You are in my thoughts.
love,
juliana
