Question about Reflexology....

Post by zeena12 »

Hi everyone!

I'm in a true dilema - during my IVF cylcle in April/May I had been having regular sessions of acupuncture. I stopped just before EC. I am now 8 weeks pg and would like to start weekly Reflexology but was advised by a friend that this may not be such a great idea because it could upset the natural functions of the body and everything is in a delicate balance right now. WHat should I do????? I really wanted to try it (just even for the relaxation benefit) but I am scared to take a risk. Has anyone been having reflexology/acupuncture/acupressure after getting a positive pg??? Please help!!

Hi Zeena

I was going to post a reply to this on the other side but as I am over here at the mo I will post here.

I went to my reflexologist this morning and asked her about having reflexology during treatment and after and she said a definite NO to having it during treatment as it can mess up the body trying to accept the drugs and stops them from working properly. She said not to have it until after ET. So I presume she meant it was OK after ET for relaxation purposes.

Personally I wouldn't do it at all until my pregnancy was fully established. It is such a powerful kind of massage that it can do all kinds of things to your body and I wouldn't want to risk it.

I am sure there are others on here who may have had it or been advised different things who can give you better answer.

Congrats on your PG too!

Hi Zeena
I've been having accupuncture for the past year (before, during and after treatment) and I am now 21 weeks pregnant....I would thoroughly recommend it as it really relaxes me. The other thing you can do once you are 12 weeks is pregnancy massage.
I would agree with Dagny and leave the reflexology for now.

Hi Zeena,

I was having reflexology before my first treatment, but my reflexologist said she would not treat me during treatment or at least for the first 3 months - it made sense, as she said, you're given drugs to stimulate etc and reflexology tries to put your body bach in balance so it could counteract everything! I ended up just leaving it...

Hope all goes well

Hi everyone

Thanks for all the advice. I spoke to the reflexologist today, she was really understanding and agreed to postpone my sessions until I've had a 12 week scan. So I'll just have to wait!!!
