Appt last Sat but first "physical" appt today - internal showed a nasty fibroid in a difficult place.....likely to cause miscarriages. Having blood test's on Monday as day 3 and going back in August to get the ok to start in September.
Questions: Should I have the fibroid removed????? (my consultant say's this is an option). My consultant said that no problem with drinking etc as within normal limits but I have noticed that all of you have stopped???
Good news is DH has loads of little men with great motility (surprising, as I was convinced that like him they would be inherently lazy!!!!) Still feeling positive.....hey ho!!!!!
I can't answer your question on fibroids as I am of the buggered tubes variety but I think I would have a fibroid removed if it was a risk of causing a M/C. I wouldn't want to have anything that I could blame if it came to it.
As regards to the alcohol, I cut it out completely as I feel healthier when I don't have it in my system as well as caffeine. I have a tendancy to de-hydrate and both alcohol and caffeine can cause those effects. A healthy lifestyle counts for a lot in my opinion.
Hope you manage to sort it all out and decide what to do with the fibroid.

I'm like Dagny in that I'd want to completely 'clear the decks' as it were so that I could begin knowing everything is as good as I can make it. Most things are WAY out of our control with tmt so it might feel good to do what you can. Drinking is similar. It's something we can actively do to prepare as best we can. I don't drink much normally (look where I live - we have the most expensive booze in Europe, if not the world) but I stop completely in the run up and during tmt. I don't drink coffee or anything with caffeine either. I try to eat more healthily and drink more water. It's personal, but I don't take any medication (except folic acid and Vit.B complex) although I think paracetamol can be alright. I do this because there's not much else I can do.
Good luck with the preparations. If you cycle in September, I'll be there too!
take care,
Debra

I'm of fibroid variety, so understand where your coming from. I've had about six removed so far in preparation 5 external and one internal that no one knew about until I had a scan at the clinic and they said they couldn't do IVF without it. So had that one removed a couple of months ago. Still have one big one left hence the IVF as positioning is critical.
If they can remove it then its worth having it done. It all depends on where it is, they will let you know if they can do IVF without removing it. But having then removed isn't too bad, internal ones can be done hysteroscoply so you are in and out in a day and it will heal within 3 weeks.
Cutting out the alcohol and caffine is good preparation and will also help with the fibroid, I've been off caffine at least since Jan this year and only have a drink about once a week, I can't cut out the chocolate though but am trying.
I'm currently on whats called a long protocol, will down reg for one month (didn't want ot wait any longer with the fibroid i have left) and then hopefully at the end of this month will start stimming.
Will your Consultant do the EC and ET, if you have to go somewhere else for that it might be worth getting them to do a fluid scan and they will be able to tell you if the fibroid will cause you any problems, as they see them all the time.
Hope all goes well. By the way the girls on here are great, you will get so much support from them. I don't post very often as I've only been looking in from the sidelines so far, but what I've read has helped me already.
Thanks for the replies girls - it's really helpful. I know where you are coming from with the alcohol/caffiene.....I am just the type of person who will beat myself up if something goes wrong!!! Having said that, I don't drink caffiene etc only herbal teas and water.....but I do like my wine!!!
If I get the choice, I am going to have it removed and will hopefully get the IVF consultant in Leeds to do it rather than go back to Rochdale. Anyway, back in August so will have more info then. Good luck to everyone for July/August.
I know what you mean about liking your wine. I gave up in April and can't bear to see anyone drinking white wine or champagne, but as the others say it is worth it (although I have had about half a glass since then and a few sips!).
One of my friends is in a similar situation to you she is having her fibroids removed next month for piece of mind.
