Hi everyone!
I want to wish everyone a happy new year and lots of joy with their new or not so new families. I feel so privileged to have had my first Christmas with my children and look forward to sharing some more stories about them on this board. I saw from teh Christmas postings that many of you feel the same way, I feel as if I got the best Christmas present there could ever be!
I have not been on the boards for what seems like ages (time for the well used phrase - if anyone remembers me) but Alex and Nadia kept me busy in their first three months and I seemed to be always sick on top of that. I guess my immune system just did not recover very easily from the birth... Anyway they are three months and 10 days now and we are so happy with them! They started sleeping through for most nights for the last couple of weeks so I hope it lasts. Nadia has become is a difficult feeder recently, leaving half her bottle and requiring extra cajoling sometimes, but Alex is really greedy and east well as a compensation. he is still a kilo and 300 grams heavier than her as a result (I guess 3 pounds?). I do hope she will not remain like this.
I am starting to wonder about weaning - what are your experiences - when do they advise to wean in the UK? I will ask my doctor tomorrow but since Alex has reached the maximum formula he can have I am wondering when he might be recommended some new foods! Any views?
lots of love and greetings from me,
juliana
Hi Juliana, lovely to read that Christmas was fun with Alex and Nadia. Double the chaos!
I'm not in the UK but advice here (and generally in the books I have) is to start with baby rice porrage around 4m, IF the baby shows signs of wanting more than milk. There's nothing absolute about it and some don't start for another month or so. I did this with Maya and later progressed onto pureed vegetables (potato, sweet potato, carrot etc). I made huge batches at once and froze them in ice-cube trays. That way I just took out one or two cubes when I needed them. I often mixed a little milk in to make it easlier to swallow. She continued with bottles of milk (but less and less) up until recently. She's turning 20m soon and now only has milk with breakfast and sometimes before bed. If they're being breastfed, advice is to carry on as long as they're interested, upto age 2 is the current guideline.
Hi Debra,
thank you for answering so fast, I read similar things in my books here so I will expect some change around 4 months which is in another 18 days...Seems like your Maya is so grown up at 20 months and mine still so small, yet I am so happy Alex and Nadia reached 3 months without major problems, Nadia was so small when she was born. It is silly but sometimes feel they are so fragile still that I count the weeks almost as if I am still pregnant, wishing them to be bigger and somehow 'safer'. have to stop some time. I loved your Christmas message, it was very much how I feel, expect indeed sometimes it is double work and chaos, still it is not so bad as people had led me to expect.
Your idea of the ice cubes is very good, I also read it in a book somewhere and will definitely do this when the moment comes.
lots of greetings to you and Maya and dp,
love,
juliana
