Advice

Post by B »

Hi,
I have stared my treatment and am taking 21 days of Microgynon and on day 21 will inject with Buserelin, I am really worried that I am doing the right thing and of the side effects to the drugs and in particualar the egg collection. I am very scared is this normal, I want a baby but am wondering if this really is for me, I have pulled out of IVF before for this reason. My husband is a great supoort but I am so scared.

Hi B, it is very normal to feel scared when you first start treatment - I know I did. It all seems so complicated and daunting. But one thing I have learnt is that in reality it is no where near as awful as you imagine.

I think side effects of the drugs differ from person to person - the only thing I seem to get headaches now and then from the buserelin and then minor aching with the stims usually just before EC. I actually find this quite comforting because at least I know something is going on!!!

Egg collection is done 2 ways - either general or sedation - I have only ever had it by sedation and I don't remember anything about it! Apparently i have long conversations with the Doctors and nurses but I really don't remember a thing!!! You can feel a bit unconfortable afterwards but it just feels like minor AF pains. The first time I had it I was PETRIFIED and created a bit of a fuss and wouldn't let the nurse but the needle in my arm and then afterwards I felt a bit silly because it really didn't hurt at all.

I hope this has helped alleviate some of your fears. I wish you the best of luck and please let us know how you get on.

Take care

It's natural to feel scared!!
But please don't pull out. Hang on in there honey!
Just think in the future you could be holding your babe in your arms, and thinking wow I am so glad I didn't pull out.
Good Luck!

Hi B ... Dolly has described the feelings that so many of us had, so well. It is perfectly natural to feel scared. I too have injected Buserelin, and didn't have any side effects at all. Everyone is different, but pls don't think the worst...

Egg collection ... have you talked to your nurses / doctor about your feelings ? My hospital offer you the choice - a General or sedation. I've always chosen the General. If you can clarify the procedings with them now, it might take away some of the anxiety ?

It really isn't as bad as you're expecting....
