LOW HCG LEVELS

Post by Sarahlou »

I wonder if anybody can try give me something positive to keep me going...............

Went for my bloods today on day 16 and they were low (12) so the hospital has been unable to confirm a viable pregnancy

They have said as it is only day 16 they want me to go back on Saturday for a retest........They said on day 18 they would expect 200 - 1000 !!!! (Long way to go) :(

The crazy thing is if I did another HPT that would say I am pregnant as these show from 5

Has anybody else had to do this and been successful??

Or should I start getting used to the idea that it is yet another failed attempt.

Any help greatly appreciated as we are finding it very hard to stay positive.

Sarah, if you want to read someone's story who went through precisely this, search for JenF's posts. She's 4-5m pg now so look for her Oct/Nov/Dec posts as she had a really difficult start with low numbers, warnings to expect the worst etc. It worked out in her case, but having been here for a while, she's the exception vs. the rule.

good luck
Debra.

Good luck Sarah, I hope it all works out well for you x

I may be a bit dumb here. I have not been lucky enough to get a positive (yet , fingers crossed) and I don't understand the hormone levels you all talk about. I have had 3 failed attempts at ivf , 1 fresh, 2 FET and I have always been given a hpt. Is it just something the hospitals do when they take a blood test? Hope you don't mind me asking, it is of no use to me yet, but I would like to know for the future, even if it's just so I can understand everybody else better. Thanks x

Hi Sarahlou

Firstly congrats on a positive result and secondly I am sorry you are going through this torture of low hCG levels. Like Debra said, JenF had very low levels and was going back and forth to the hospital for weeks and it crept up gradually - she's an inspiration to all those going through the same thing.

I had a similar experience to you just after Christmas. I got a positive and went for my first scan NYE and there was a sac but no heart beat - I had my hCG done and then again 2 days later. It had risen but not doubled - we had days and days of going back for scans and bloods and although we did get a heartbeat eventually it was slow and we were told that the baby wouldn't live - they were right but I am trying to take a positive from our m/c that I did get PG again and so hopefully I can do it again one day.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for a good hCG result for you next time - It can happen so keep positive!!

Leanne - Some clinics and hospitals only tell you to do HPT's (like mine) and they don't bother with hCG levels and some only do bloods and hCG levels. I have to say that too much emphasis is put on hCG levels which can make you panic and worry when everything is fine after all if you are going to miscarry there is not much they can do about it. I am quite glad that my hospital don't bother doing bloods. I hope you get you much wished for BFP one day. We all deserve it.

Love Dagny xkx
