ICSI Query's

Post by spongebob »

Hello,

We have our first ICSI appointment next week after waiting 20 months. Can anyone put our minds at rest and let us know what is going to happen etc in this appointment and then what happens from them on. How quick things move from there etc etc. The hospital we are going to is Roehampton, has anyone used there and can tell us what they are like.

Many Thanks.

R.

Hi R...welcome to the board. Well done for getting through the 20months. I've not had ICSI nor used Roehampton but just wanted to say 'hi' and hopefully you'll get some useful info in replies from other people.

Hi There

I have had ICSI but not there, but on your first appointment they just talk through your needs. They then decide what drugs you will be on and what they think is best for you and your partner needs. They will give dates when you have to have tests and also for your DH to do his little bit to test his sperm. I hope this is any good to you, if you do need to ask anymore please do not hesitate to PM me or ask on board.
Love

Hi R,
Well done on making the short list (the first time takes forever to get to). I've had two failed ICSIs so far and can answer questions you have from my experience anyway (but do be aware that every treatment can feel very different for each individual). The important thing to stress is that you shouldn't worry about the physical aspects of the treatment - it really isn't too bad at all. What you need to take care with is your emotional health - just make sure you've got some people you trust who will be there for you and if you need any other support get your clinic to refer you for counselling. Hope that does'nt scare you - I don't mean to at all, just want to reassure you that there is support out there and that needing a little help is nothing to worry about and can help to keep you relaxed. Throughout my first treatment I had acupuncture and I would definitely recommend it - it really helped. I wish I'd found time for it for my last attempt. Don't worry too much about all the stages of treatment - your clinic will take you through them step by step but a book (in fact it's a bible) that you need is Fertility and Conception (I think) by Zita West - can get it from Amazon - takes you through all the stages really clearly. Good luck with it all and ask away with any questions - you'll find loads of great advice on this site - I'm so glad I found it!
Welcome to the adventure and here's hoping that you'll be first time lucky (it does happen so fingers crossed), Cherylx

Hi R. Welcome to the site. I've had ICSI, but not at Roehamptom. I suppose each hospital / clinic differs in terms of waiting lists, timescales etc. Your days will now be filled with bloods, more bloods, sperm samples (to test mobility/motility and freeze if any good) and more consultations. Once everything is in place, including all the legal paperwork (there is tons of it for you both to sign off / references rqd from your GP) etc, you'll then go on their Waiting List. The Waiting List alone at my hosp was 2 years - hopefully yours will be much shorter.
