NHS or Private ?

Post by Julie Martin »

Has anyone gone through the Ivf system with the NHS in the Manchester area ?
We decided to go private as we had only joined the NHS waiting list in september 2001.
Today we got a letter to say to come to Manchester Royal Infirmary in December for a meeting with approx. 80 other couples.
We were wondering if anyone knows how long it might be after this time that we actually receive treatment as i'm 33 and dh 35, are we as well to try and fund another go ourselves because of age and time, but also know that the more times you pay yourself the NHS allocation is reducded.
Can anyone help this confused Manchester girl ?

Julie M

Julie

I've just had my first IVF cycle on the NHS through St Marys, Manchester.

We had our group meeting in July this year, initial personal consultation about 4 weeks after, then various tests had to be done (blood tests for me and him and another sperm sample from hubs). Seemed to take ages but I finally started Buserilin injections on 10th October so it took about 3-4 months in all from the meeting to start treatment.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Bibby

Hi Julie

Glad you have decided on the NHS route - it really shouldn't be that long for you now.

As for me, I'm now on 2WW (don't know what day of 2WW as I don't count) but I am due to test on Friday 22nd Nov.

If it's good news I'll post, if not you won't hear from me!!

Here's wishing you good luck for your treatment when it starts.

Bibby
