I just wanted to say Hi to everyone out there... I am new here... and I know I will be visiting this board a lot from now on because just last week, my hubbie and I were told "Unfortunately your tubes are both blocked and you need IVF help to conceive" by the endo specialist............ (><)! Our first IVF specialist consultation is in May ( I have to recover from operative-laparoscopy I had last week first).... so meanwhile I will be studying all about IVF (incl abbreviations (xx) etc ) and listening to this site.
BTW I do have a Q... re blocked tubes;- Is anyone out there ever attempted unblocking them? it is possible?
Thanks all for listening. I hope you all have a lovely day (#^.^#)v.
Welcome to the board!!! You have made the first step to making your dreams come true - hopefully!!
I am sorry that you have to follow the IVF road - its always hard to accept when you are told that by the doctors.
I had blocked and damaged tubes from a botched appendix op in my early 20's and so I had them removed. My doc did a laparoscopy to see how bad they were with the intention to try and 'un-block' them but they were so scarred with tissue from the op and full of trapped fluid called hydrosalpinx that removal was the only option.
I think if your tubes are just blocked then there maybe a possibility to try and unblock them but as your tubes are so delicate any kind of intervention can cause damage occasionally. If there is damage already, it's unlikely that unblocking them will be a success. But stranger things have happened and so anything is worth a try in my books.
There are very fine hairs/follicles on the insides of your tubes which waft the egg along the tube. If the tube has been streched or operated on the hairs dont waft and interlock as they do it meaning that the egg wont travel down the tube. This is normally how ectopic pregnancies occur.
If you have blocked tubes and have hydrosalpinx (trapped fluid) in them then if there is a fetus in the womb any of the fluid which may leak out can be detrimental to the growing fetus normally resulting in miscarriage.
If you come over to the General Forum there is a bit more going on. The smaller forums tend to be a bit quiet. There will be lots of other ladies in the same boat as you and can help you with any questions you may have. At the top of the Genaral Forum list there is a 'sticky' thread with all the abbreviations which should help.
See you over there. May will be here before you know it!

i have blocked fallopian tubes and have had 4 laproscopys. during the last one they found out my tubes were blocked they try to unblock them with a dye during the op. if this doesnt work they can try a small operation but it depends how damaged they are. ivfs the only option for severe damage. Good Luck
