For those of you who have more experience I would like to pick your brains!
My Mum and Dad have offered to buy us a stroller.......although I have asked them not to do so until the last possible moment!!
I was looking at the Bugaboo and a new one by Quinny called Buzz. The Buzz is really really easy to put up and down as it runs on a gas system. Both fit a car seat but as you know the baby can't stay in one for longer than 2 hours, so they effectively trap you into buying the carrycot too!
Do you think it is probably better to buy one of the car seats that does not fit in the pram and does a child until they are about 3?? I am just thinking that because..........if we go to London for the day to visit friends.....the baby will be in the car seat for 1.5 hrs and then can stay in it no longer???
Sorry I am rambling now.........any suggestions welcome...........cannot believe that I would ever be asking advice on prams!!
we bought a Graco travel system, but would never recommend it again!
The baby car seat (up to 9kg or until baby can sit unaided for about 30 mins) was huge, heavy and Jay looked so uncomfy in it. It feels heavy enough when it's empty, but just after a baby you feel so weak (esp after Section) and it's SOOO heavy with a baby in it's a nightmare.
The pram bit/pushchair was fine, but so heavy, huge and unwieldy - it filled up our entire boot!
I believe there are car seats that do go flt which is great for a newborn.

Well I had a 3 in 1 travel system and it was so heavy I'm not to sure if I would do it again to be honest. I think I would buy a lighter weight buggy and then I would have a seperate car chair. The thing is I had the car chair with my 3 in 1 and because little one was only supposed to be in it for 1 hour I got paranoid so when we was out I always had him in his cot. I have just brought a Maclaren stroller stormer which can be used from newborn and it is so easy to put up and down. Its down to the individual at the end of the day, let us know what you opt for.
Sorry for butting in. We are buying a Mamas and Papas Freestyler travel system that has a car seat attatchment. I have never heard of the 1 hour policy, where can i find out more information on this?

10 July 2005 -Our precious son Joshua James was born.
we opted for Jane travel system with the matrix car seat. I'm not sure I would again though although I wasn't necessarily unhappy with it, it's just large and quite cumbersome which I thing most travel systems are. I think a few people have bought the bugaboo and all have appeared happy with it but maybe someone could post with any downsides (if there are any) for you.
I'm not actually sure there's ever a perfect option. We found the matrix car seat great for the first 6 months or so in it's lie flat position, but once Dan was sitting up and we put it in to it's upright position he looked really uncomfortable and if he fell asleep his head flopped forward due to it being too upright. So I still ended up buying a reclining 2nd stage car seat too. Likewise with the travel system, it was great if going for a walk from home, but I ended up buying a mcclaren stroller for in the boot of the car.
From what I've seen of the bugaboo it appears to be compact and although it seems more expensive than the other travel systems perhaps in the long run it balances out, because if like me you then buy alternatives then you end up spending about the same.

Hi there - remember me ? I cycled with you last year and my baby's due two days after yours. I'm so glad you made it over to this side - it was touch and go for a while there !! I haven't posted for ages and ages but check the boards every day.
So you're 24 weeks today - I don't know about you but despite all the worry I'm really enjoying being pregnant and intend to make the most of every second.
We have gone for the Mamas & Papas Pramette. It's a pram that then converts into a pushchair when you need it. We're also getting a matching car seat that will attach to the pushchair to create a travel system. It appears to be compact, lightweight and easy to manoeuvre but until we get to use it for real we won't really know how good it is.
Jackie - I have also been told that you shouldn't leave your baby in a car seat for more than an hour and a half a day because due to the slightly upright position it is not good for the development of the baby's spine.

Thanks so much for your help!! Its a minefield..........don't even want to buy the damn thing until the middle of June I am so scared about having bought anything.........but I think I may have to do it sooner or we will have nothing to put the poor lamb into!
I have decided one thing..........not going for the carseat that goes into the pram.........just the fixed one for the car. Will get a stroller with a carrycot attachment so he/she can lie flat after being in the car seat.

Sorry to but in on this thread but just wanted to mention that Mamas and Papas do a prammette type fitting for your pushcair that is also suitable for fixing on the back seat of a car. The baby is harnessed inside and lays completely flat - a bit like the old fashioned carry cots used to be (being an old girl I know about these!)
Perhaps this might be a consideration if you are going to do a lot of prolonged travelling?
It might be worth looking at?
