AF arriving during 2WW

Post by Andie »

Hi Everyone

I'm new to this and have just recently had my first IVF cycle after ttc for 4 years. Unfortunately on day 11 of 2WW AF arrived which came as a shock to both me and dh as we didn't really know what to expect with it being our first time. I think you almost convince yourself it's going to work.

My question is for those who have unfortunately been in the same situation, how long did AF go on for? I was expecting it to be for days on end and be in alot of pain but it has only lasted two days and since then there's been nothing. Does anyone have any idea if I can expect AF to arrive again soon or is that it until next month?
We are hoping to start our 2nd cycle in January which hopefully will be successful.

Sorry to go on but I also have another question about the number of cells. The two I had put back were only 4 cells each and yet I have been reading that some people had 7 or 8 cells - could this be anything to do with my negative result?

Good luck to all of you, I've been following everyone's story and it must be so exciting for those of you with a positive result. Look after yourselves.

Bye for now

Andie

Andie,

I have just had a failed ET, and too was expecting a very bad AF, but it wasn't at all. Mine came for about 2/3 days, then went for about 2 days, then came back for another couple of days.

Also, the 3 embies I used all had 4 cells. The remaining embies on ice have 4 cells, 3 cells and some with 2 cells. Having spoken to our consultant yesterday, she reckons that there's no evidence to prove that a higher cell amount is more likely to work that a lower cell amount. I too read about people having 7 or 8 cells & then started to think that mine were inadequate at only 4 cells, but apparently not.

Good luck for the new year, we're having another go then too.

Hello Andie

Sorry to hear your bad news.

I had a failed IVF in May this year (1st attempt)and started bleeding on 14 so virtually made it to the test and then fell at the last hurdle! My a/f was normal, with no pain and lasted the normal length of time for me which was 5 days.

Regarding the cells, I think the more advanced cells are possible for FET's. I've had my first FET on 28th October and am now 6 weeks pregnant (well almost). When the froze the embies they were all 3/4/5 cells but when they thaw them they have to leave them out for at least 24 hours to make sure they're still developing and dividing so that's probably why some people have more cells. With the frozen ones I had, they put 2 in - 1 was 6 and 1 was 7 cells.

Hope this helps and very best of luck for next time.

Sarah :O)

Andie,

My first IVF attempt ended in September with the suprise visit of AF 12 days after e/t - the first day I had the normal dragging pain, and then after that it was completely painless - the only AF I've EVER had without loads of pain! It was quite heavy (which I expected), but didn't go on for ages (which I didn't). I was just really p'd off that it had had the gall to arrive at all!!

Mind you, I then had to wait 6 weeks until AF's next visit, and as you can normally set your watch by my periods, I had lots of hopeful thoughts that perhaps one of my embies had implanted quietly, and I'd just lost the other two. Daft I know, but I never stop hoping that perhaps this month will be THE month - even after ttc for 9 years!!

Andrea
<><

Andie - so sorry to hear your news. On the embryo question, I think part of the issue is which day you have them put back in on. Some clinics do it on day 2, others on day 3, others what to see how many embies there are before deciding. On day 2 a 4 cell is as many as you'll get, but by day 3 some may be 8 cells (although I've never managed more than a 6 cell). Hope this helps. Look after yourself.

Alison x

Hi Andie
I to had a failed first attempt at IVF, my af came on day 13 of 2ww which the longer you go into 2ww the more you build up your hopes.
My af only lasted 2/3 days but was very heavy which is not the norm for me. Due to start 2nd af (since failed IVF) on 26/11 so not looking forward to then :-(.
With reagrds to the eggs, I had my e/t 2 days after e/c and my eggs were a 4 cell and a 5 cell, but I have heard that on day 3 egg cells increase to 7/8 cells-so don't worry youe eggs were A1.
I have an appointment at my hospital on 11/12 to set and next cycle, so I to could be starting again come Jan/Feb.
Love Debsx
Hi Everyone

Thanks for all your advice, I feel alot better now and much more positive. We are going to the clinic tomorrow to discuss future cycles so at least I can ask about the cells now I understand it all a bit more.

It's amazing how much better you can cope with all of this knowing that there's other people out there willing to listen and give advice all in the same boat - it's not the same trying to talk to my best friend who's got a 17 week old baby after only 4 months of ttc!

Thanks again

Andie

Hello Andie,
sorry to hear it didnt work for you . I just had my second failed FET. I didnt have a fresh cycle as they had to freeze-all when i was over stimulated( 60+ follicles). On each of the FET 2ww I didnt have af until after I stopped the drugs ( and then it came two days later) In fact I didnt know that you could come on whilst on the pessaries /tablets until I read the other stories on this message board.I also had mainly 4 cell embryos(1 was a 5 cell) and they said they were good. The first time I failed at FET my own af ( after the withdrawel bleed ) didnt appear after 60 days so they gave me drugs to start it off. They werent pleasant so I think ill wait for nature this time however long it takes.
All the best for your next try
bye bye
Annie
Hi Andie,
sorry about your bad news. Our 1st attempt has just failed as well. AF came with bells on on day 14. Not really painful (and I normally have some doozies) but really heavy. Lasted about 5 days.

As for embie grades, I had two grade 1 eight cells put and back in on day 3 and it didn't work for us.

Good luck for next time, we are hoping to try January as well so maybe we'll both be lucky.
Keep smiling
LOL
Terri
xxx
