IVIG

Post by LittleP »

Hi - sorry, me again with yet another question. :?

I have been told that I have to have IVIG injections - I know that it is something to do with being attached to a drip for up to 4 hours, but know very little else.

I don't suppose anyone has any experience or knowledge of this they could pass on do they :? :!:

Thanks

Little P

Absolutely - I think I spend more time on this site than anywhere else nowadays - it's fantastic :!:

It's certainly given me ideas of questions to ask when I go to the hospital next which is helpful

Couldn't agree more! In fact, I've been trying to curb my board time as I'm not getting as much done as I did before I found this site. :?

LittleP, I wish just once you would ask a question I could help with  ... but as usual, I'm way behind these other ladies when it comes to info on IVF. Hope you get what you need.

Hi LittleP

there was someone (on this board???) who posted who had also killer cells...The IVIG stands for Intravenous Immunoglobulin. I think this is supposed to supress the action of the killer cells but I don't know if it's a long term or short term therapy, you might have to have it done each time..

Hope someone with more info tips up soon

Hi again

just did some research for you - I studied human physiology at Uni and worked for a biotechnology company for quite a while so rusty but the following look very good:

www.cidpusa.org/P/ivig.htm

That is an article that explains very simply what IVIg is...

http://www.earlypregnancy.org/EPBM/EPBM ... BM1288.htm

That is a really good chapter on Natural Killer cells in early pregnancy and use of IVIg to help..actually the whole site looks really good in general..

Hope that helps U sweetie

Big HUGS and KISSES - you truly are a source of fabulous information.

Thank you so much for the information and websites I am going to have a really good read of them tonight.

Now you've sorted me out, again, how about you, are you feeling ready or are you still a bit anxious :?:

Hi Little P
At least you have an answer!
IVIG is no problem I have had 3 so far. They hook you up to the drip and you just sit there and read or in my case I was sitting with someone else also having it done so we had a good gossip! Best part of the treatment in my opinion! Worst part having the drip put in as I still don't like needles. They also give you a benadryl antihistamine before you start in case of an allergic reaction
Let me know if you want any more info about the poscess, Hope this puts your mind at rest

Ellie

Thank you so much. I had absolutely no idea what to expect, but from the sounds of it, it is really nothing to be concerned about. My DH wants to come too, but if that is all there is to it I shall probably tell him not to worry because I don't think there is much he can do during the process anyway.

I don't know what other drugs I am going to be put on as they said they will determine that on the back of my hysteroscopy and the scans they are doing now :?

I've come to one conclusion though at least I know what is wrong and there is a way forward. You had success didn't you so that proves that this treatment is worthwhile so what's an extra drug or three

Thanks again Ellie, you've set my mind at rest.
