Newbie From Birmingham - Refused IVF egg share

Hi All

I am new to the group so I thought that I would introduce myself. My name’s Deborah, but everyone calls me Debs.

A little about me, I got sterilised after having two children and a divorce, never thought I would ever settle down again let alone meet a wonderful guy (whom I am marrying next year ) let alone wanting another child.
But I was so wrong. We are both very desperate to have a child, complete our family.

Due to finances we have looked at IVF egg share but due to the fact that my blood group is Sickle Cell Trait we cannot go ahead. So from what we have been told, our only other option is IVf or Sterilisation Reversal. But we are not giving up, we are asking advice from all round to see if there is anything else that we can do or can be done for us.

Is there anyone who is in the same situation? Love to hear from you all.

Hi Debs, very glad to have you here!

I'm very sorry to hear about your condition but I suppose you have pretty good chances since you already have two children. That's got to count for sthing!

I'm very glad you found sone to share your life with, it does make a difference, doesn't it?

I'm not going through any sort tmt (yet!) so i can't help you there but if there's anything else you need, just post it!

Hi All, Thanks for the welcome

sand - yeah it was my dr and my consultant who told us that was our only options. So we now have to go back to the drawing board and see how we can raise 6x's the orignal amount! not good!!

Ideally, as Rita pointed out, I haev too kids already, so hopefully if my biological alarm clock is not against me, I may be still fertile. With this is mind IVf, what with the drugs involved could make me over fertile and this is very risky, therefore ideally I would like to go for a steralisation reversal, but once again its the cost issue. So I think it's going to be a case of no more holiday and some serious/quick saving. Also keeping on buying my lottery tickets!!!

So what stages are you all at?

Debs. Just a thought. When I looked into sterilisation reversal, I was told that the odds on it succeeding were low and then, if they managed to open the tubes, there was no guarantee they would stay open for long, I was quote perhaps 3m. This was 5 years ago and the surgery may have developed a lot since then, but you might want to get some stats on this option before deciding.

I think maybe the surgery has developed as the consultant we saw told us that there are differnt ways of doing the procedure and there are chances that scar tissue may be a problem. I have also been told that they can put a tube inside the fallopian tube, increasing the chance (not too sure about this as it was someone at work that told me this) will check with consultant.

I dont think it matters whether you are fertile or not with ivf. What I mean is.. is that I most probably would be fertile if my tubes weren't blocked and ivf isn't more of a risk for me. Therefore isn't sterilisation the same ... they just block your tubes to stop the eggs and sperm meeting.
Nobody knows how the drugs for ivf are going to affect us until it happens, but they always start you on the lowest dose, and then scan you regualrly to check that you are being stimulated appropriately. I think maybe you need to find out more about ivf.
Hope this helps a bit, and hope I made sense. As I know what I wanted to say but unsure whether its come out as clearly as I wanted it to.

Thanks for your responce, I understood what you were trying to say. I had a responce back from my consultant and he has said taht IVF would be the best/less traumatic procedure, so once again, I am changing direction and steering more to IVF!
