Hi girls , I can't sleep as yesterday we afternoon we had the biggest shock of our lives.
As you know we are expecting twins & really looking forward to it. Went for my Nuchal Scan at the local hospital looking forward to seeing the babies again & feeling really calm - not for long!
I have had 3 scans since being pregnant with my IVF clinic & each time felt anxious that there would still be 2 hearts beating so when the lady doing the scan said to me "when you last had a scan ( 10 days ago) were there still 2 babies?" I really feared the worst.
She went on to say ".....because there are actually 3"!!!!!!!
The clinic has missed TRIPLETS three times.
I just can't get my head round how you cope, we were thinking twins would be a big enough challenge, but at least I now know why I have been feeling so rough.
All advice gratefully received!!
A very shocked Caroline x

It is twins - amazing!!!! Due on my birthday- 28 October! No, unbelievably discovered at 12 weeks Nuchal Scan that it is actually Triplets!!
Wow Caroline! That is amazing! I know one mom with triplets from the Mother of Multiples club I go to here in the US. Hers are 9 months old - two girls and a boy. They are just adorable! And they live in a small apartment, so it can be done.
She has her husband home on the weekends, and has daytime help during the week. I've seen her out with her helper and the triplets several times and she makes it all look very manageable.
If you do not have Dr. Luke's book "When Your're Expecting Twins, Triplets or Quads" I would run out and buy it immediately. Multiple pregnancies require a tremendous amount of nutritious food, and a lot of what you read about exercise, etc. does not apply to us. I have managed to carry my twins to 37 weeks so far using the advice in the book. And I am less than five feet tall!
So best of luck to you for a healthy pregnancy, and I hope all goes very smoothly.

TTC 2.5 years - Me 38 no tubes; DH 32
1st- IVF June 2004 - early MC
2nd - FET Aug 2004 - Twin boys born April 25, 2005!!!
Caroline, congratulations on a very special piece of news.
My only advice would be to find 'multiples' support groups in your area and on the web asap for advice during pg and thereafter.
The Mother of 2004 here (I'm in Scandanavia) has a toddler daughter + triplet daughters of 12m.....they looked like a lovely basket of puppies - all crawling over each other. Your children will never want for company, entertainment nor friends. Lucky children.
Im expecting twins am 36 weeks and this has been tough carrying them so can just imagine how you are feeling get as much rest as you can cos you are going to need it good luck to you and lots of love to you and your little bumps

Wow, congratulations Caroline! What exciting news.
I know of someone who was told that she was expecting IVF triplets, only to give birth to quads so at least you've found out before you have your babies!
Make sure that you get lots of rest and pampering.

TTC 5 years. Daniel & Charlotte born 22.03.02, 1st ICSI treatment. TTC for 4 further years. 2nd ICSI cycle abandoned, 3rd cycle BFN. Looking forward to being a happy family of 4.
Blimey, what a shock. You musn't know whether to laugh or cry. Did they put three embryos back in then???
I think you need to put your feet up and let everyone run around after you.
Congratulations, and you are over the first trimester.

Thanks to you all for you messages - feeling much calmer than this morning. Have been for a special scan today & it seems that there are lots of complications with triplets where one set is identical twins- but feel we are going to be in good hands once we get ourselves referred to Kings Hosp which looks likely with a bit of work on my part!
In answer to the question re whether 3 embryos went back, the answer is no, just 2 - so 1 has divided so we have identical twins plus another.
Off to bed for some sleep.
