wife had transfer today, 1st cycle...

Post by pam-mike-g »

Hello All,

Because my fishes didn't swim very well, my wife (Pam) and i (Mike) had to use ICSI to assist us in making a baby.

This past Thursday, 5/12, we had 14 eggs retrieved. Friday morning came with good news from the IVF Center. 12 of the eggs fertilized, and 7 of them turned into embryos.

Yesterday morning, Sunday, 5/15, we went in for a Day 3 transfer. The doctor inserted 2 8-cell embryos, and 1 7-cell into my wife.

We are both extremely excited and nervous as well. This is our very first cycle, and we both hope and pray that this will be our last too.

Other than the low count, everything else points to positive results. Her levels/counts/ultrasounds/etc. have been excellent. I am an identical twin, my dad is fraternal, his grandmother was a triplet, my first cousins are identical, and there are also twins on my wifes side (although not as many as my side).

Should we remain as confident as we are understanding how far technology has come (re: ICSI)???

Just yapping like usual.
-Mike (hopefully father-to-be)

Hi Mike and Pam, welcome aboard!

I think you can most certainly remain confident. It sounds like you have had perfect results at every stage of the process thus far. 12 embies is quite an achievement. :D

You have so many multiples in your family...wow...perhaps more than one baby is on the cards (although I hope not 3 sets of identical twins!!) I wish you the best of luck in fulfilling your dreams of becoming parents and I have my fingers crossed for a BFP for you both when you test.

Cheers

Mike, what amazing family reunions you must have!

We were first time lucky, it does happen. Each month someone on the board is whooping in delight in pure joy of a +ve result after a first round of treatment. There's no reason why it shouldn't be you and your wife.

I wish you the very best of luck.

I can already tell that the support here is amazing!!

I just read all the responses from all of you to my wife. She is quite impressed that you wish us the best as perfect strangers.

I'll be sure to check the boards from time to time and will keep you all in the loop of our process, because it sounds like you genuinely care.

Take care,
Mike & Pam

Hi Mike and Pam,

Wow!! That sounds great, I am sure you'll soon be parents, every things sounds good. Here's to the next 2 weeks.
I am not doing ivf but iui in mid cycle right now!

Yes, I know what you mean, in theory we are all strangers and if we were to pass in the street thats what we are but this is a online comminuty and that the difference.

I feel closer to people here than I do my own friends and family, as every one who's logged on here understands, friends and family dont know truely. They give support and say they understand, but how can you when you haven't been there?

So I do wish u both all the best. :)
TTC 6yrs......Have jumped off the rollercoaster for now, too many BFN's and too much heartache, to keep going....Moving on to fulfil other dreams!!!

Mike,

We can certainly relate!! My DH and I (Bob) have the same male factor and heading into our 3rd ICSI...Your results and numbers sound wonderful and you should remain confident and positive! The best advice I can give you though is understand....this is not an exact science and every body reacts differently to a process that is out of the ordinary and it sounds like you guys are on the right road!! Now here is the tough part.....don't buy into any of the signs! Those signs are caused my elevated levels of progesterone (which I believe you are injecting into her, my DH did) Also remain positive but don't falsely convince yourself you are pregnant or the crash will be tougher if it isn't good news!!, be there for each, let her talk about what she is feeling but gently remind her to think positive but don't take it too far until you get that +ve result and most of all DON"T TEST EARLY!!!!!!!!

Sending tons of +++++++++++=energy+++++++++++++ your way and I will keep you in my prayers!!!!! Please feel free to contact me offline if you would like to learn more about what we have been through)

I would second the advice of Jamato. It’s good to be positive, but try and be realistic at the same time or otherwise you could be building both your hopes up too high. Like you, our problem is ‘male factor’. We have had 2 rounds of ICSI so far since November. The first was +ve bud sadly only lasted a few days; the last in April was –ve. Each time I seemed to do well (relatively speaking for my age), 12 eggs, 7 fertilised, and 2 good quality blastocysts transferred. I respond well to stimulation and in short seem to have textbook cycles. This seems to make it doubly gutting when it doesn’t work (in fact the doctors are already testing me for NKC and poor blood flow to try and find a reason why). I really think that often the IVF process is a lottery and you need to think of it that way. Some people get lucky 1st time; some the 2nd time and others the 3rd (fingers crossed for us). Some will have no luck at all. Some get pg with 1 2-cell embie, other like me have 5 day multi-cell blastos that won’t implant.

Be positive but be realistic and pragmatic too. Good luck.
