How bad is the emotional swings?

Post by KristiKay »

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi I am Kristi (34) from Texas....I am starting IVF/ICSI this week. I have NO IDEA what I am up against. This will be our first treatment cycle. My husband John is (45) and is undergoing reversal vasectomy this week. While they are doing the procedure they will retrieve his "good swimmers" this week to transfer to me in a month, basically. I start the Lupron this week then off to Repronex in about 2.5 weeks. Ladies, how much does this truly affect you hormonally? I have heard some terrible horror stories  -- women spending the entire day in tears. What am I up against? My husband is a wee bit nervous....as am I

Any other feedback you can give me on the IVF/ICSI would be most helpful

Thanks Kristi

Kristi,
I did the lupron to start with and estrogen. The lupron makes you emotional because it sends you into a menapousal state. My DH was prepared to come home in full hockey pad attire before we started but Honestly it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I was prepared for much worse.
Don't worry too much about the horror stories because it all depends on the woman too. Not everyone is going to have the same swings from it. I did get super happy with the pogestrone I got the giggles alot. That was fun.
good luck and don't let it stress you out you'll be fine.
Love

Kristi,
My experience has been that the meds give you a dull headache, mild night time hot flashes and a little bit of moodiness, but not much.
I take Lupron, Repronex and Follistim.
Best of luck to you. We are all a little different, but this might help.

Krisit

What the others have written is true! I havent done your protolcol but there were odd moments when you just feel tearful for no reason  , but then you feel okay  because you know its the meds.

I found the 2ww the most emotional time - I think partly to the meds, but probably mostly due to the whole roller coaster ride!!!

Best wishes and don't worry  !

I think it depends on the person.

I was a real devil  while downregging!

(but it was all for good purpose and I do not regret!)

Kirsti, I've answered you Q on the Intro board too but just wanted to say Lumi's comment about knowing it's all OK and 'just the meds' is spot-on. It IS only the meds so you can both take heart it's not permanent :)

My reactions to down-regging were very strong BUT because of Easter I was on them for nearly 6 weeks, enough to drive anyone insane!

Good luck

Hi Kristi .. Welcome and good luck with your first cycle .. May it be successful !!

I just want to add that even with the same downreg medi (Buserelin) I've had different side effects on different cycles (ie. first 2 cycles - none, 3rd cycle splitting headaches).

Good luck ..!!

i have to give myself a kick start..
we werent blessed with our babies to raise here but we our blessed with our grandaughter
