Cramping w/o bleeding

Post by Sher8 »

Today is probably the roughest day yet. I have had extreme stomach cramping. There has been no bleeding so I am somewhat relieved. I was just curious if anyone else has had this during the 1st Trimester. It seems to have started after I ate and does not want to stop. Any suggestions or thoughts on this subject are welcome. . .

I am also 6 weeks pg and I have had cramping, shooting pains, back ache since the 2nd week following ET. Like you, I'm not worrying too much yet because I haven't bled but I am a bit nervous that this about of pain is unusual.

My nurse at the clinic told me that my ovaries would still be trying to recover so maybe that is a factor?

Hope it's OK for both of us!

Hi Sher

I have AF type aches\ pains on a daily basis and also some 'shooting pains' that Alison describes occasionally. If it started after you ate maybe it is a digestive problem (I know the progesterone hormone affects the smooth muscle in our bodies and slows things down). There is so much going on at the moment for our bodies to cope with, what with all the growing and stretching. Take it easy and rest, as you say you arent bleeding so thats good.

Hi Alison

Welcome and congratulations on your BFP!
I have eventually got used to some of these aches and pains, but still worry occasionally. I have also had these 'shooting pains' quite low down, which started a few days ago (although havent had in last couple of days).
At my first scan at 6.5 weeks it showed my ovaries were still very much enlarged. I was quite relieved as I had been getting dull aches on the left side and sharp pains on the right. I was a bit worried before my scan I had an ectopic on the right. By my scan last thursday at 8.5 weeks my ovaries had gone back to normal.
Take care and enjoy your pregnancy. Whens your first scan?

Hi Sher,

Just to let you know I had the same thing and it is the same as what Kim has said, I was worried about quite painful cramping which one one day really went on for a while. I had an early scan at 6 weeks which showed Bubs was fine, but that the ovaries were really large, especially one one side which was 60mm! My nurse said it was normal after what we have been through for the ovaries to stay enlarged for a little while which cause all kinds of weird pains. I think that the initial burst of pregnancy hormones re-stimulates the ovaries and any remaining follicles can stay enlarged for a while. She said it was nothing to worry about and they will go down so I am sure you are feeling the same. It is impossible for us to not worry after everything we have been through, but hope this can reasure you a little.

Good luck!

Hi Kel

Just to say the same as everyone else really. i had cramping really badly for the whole of the pregnancy - worst was in the 1st trimester though and the first few weeks after transfer and your +ve result.

unfortunately i had bleeding as well 3 (7 wks, 10 wks, 14 wks) times within the first 14 weeks - and rushed down to the hospital all 3 times as they were coupled with some really bad cramping. everything was fine! i was actually pregnant with twins and i am now 31 wks, both babes are healthy and fine!

one reason i was given is that after the IVF op (EC) and the medication ur ovaries are so enlarged that u r sore already, then there is the added cope of pregnancy. remember your womb is changing shape and growing, and everything is different down there.

try not to worry - Im sure everything is fine - but if you are really concerned get yourself a scan, or go and see ur midwife! It never hurts to get some reassurance, and thats what i did. i know i wouldnt have rested safe til i had done......

love and kisses

Toni xx

Sher8 Update

Post by Paul »

Everyone is ok

Sheri is staying at the hospital for at least tonight. Hyperstimulation of the ovaries. They are keeping her hydrated and giving her pain meds. Once the pain subsides to the point that we can control it at home, she can come home. No danger to her (just a lot of pain) or the baby.

She should be back soon to tell more.

Hi Paul / Sher

please pass on a big hug from me as well, we were testing buddies so we are about the same amound pregnant. She'll get the care she needs now. Is she still scanning on Friday or have they done an extra one today???

I had donor eggs so have been spared what you poor girls have been going through with your ovaries. My thoughts are with you all sweeties, I know how worried you are. Just keep thinking there is no bleeding so it must be all the rest of the stuff sorting itself out. Your brave and wonderful bodies are probably still in shock. Be kind to yourselves and have faith. After the bleeding dh said to me " you are going to have to believe in this and yourself or you are going to go through hell, have faith sweetie" it has helped me so much.

Thinking of you all

love and kisses

I keep trying to calm myself and it works for a while but then I freak again.

Hi Paul/Sher

Please try not to worry.

I was in hospital for 2weeks for Hyperstimulation(OHSS), so I can totally sympathise. It will take time and the bed rest will only do you good.
