I have recently had a -ve result and that was my only chance on the NHS, We have decided it have 1 more try privately at a different hospital/clinic. Can anyone recommend a clinic in London for ISCI that perhaps they have used.
I am with Holly House (the Essex Fertility Centre) in Buckhurst Hill, just outside London. In the HFEA report Little P refers to, they came 4th from the top, so I’m happy with their success rate. More pertinently for me, their success rate for women aged 34-38 (I am 39) was slightly better than the ARGC’s (the 59% rate relates to women under 35 I think). I’ve been told I respond very well for my age so I’m looking at that under 39 success rate. I’ve had 2 cycles with them; the first ICSI was +ve but I then m/c and the 2nd was –ve. I’ve now been tested +ve for a higher killer cell rate so will be treated with steroids during the next cycle. I’m happy with their treatment and their quick response to my failed attempts (some clinics would let you go 4 or 5 times before testing you for NKC).
Yes, it’s killer cells. It’s something that has received a bit of press recently – there was a big fertility conference in Copenhagen where they presented some stats relating to treatment of recurrent m/c with steroids. NKC are present in all of us – they’re what helps fight infections. Unfortunately some women have too high levels. I was told by my consultant that if I had conceived naturally my levels wouldn’t be a problem, but unfortunately with IVF the killer cells treat the inserted embryo as an ‘alien’ object and reject it. I don’t necessarily expect to get another +ve on my next round just because I get treated with steroids, but equally it’s good to have an explanation for my earlier m/c and it rules one more thing out of the equation.
