Post by Cate »

Hope you all fine Kirsten went for her 8 week check and first jab today I can't believe shes eight weeks old she got weighed today she weighs a whoping 8lb15 ozs!!! All well with her she is doing huuuge beaming smiles now, though not this evening as a bit out of sorts after the jabs...
I feel okay but definately my forty years!! This last weekend was a bit tricky as summer has finely come and the very hot weather doesn't agree with little babies as we all know.
I hope you are all doing well it's funny seeing 3rd trimester threads on the other board life goes on for new people with babies due and also for those still trying wishing every one well with love Cate xxx

Dearest Cate!

I'm so glad Kirstin is doing great. It's amazing to see those first smiles isn't it? I love to go get Jessica out of her crib first thing in the am, she smiles and coos and is so happy in the morning.
I hated the 2 mos old shots! It's so heartwrenching to see them stick your baby with needles isn't it? Jessica got 3 of them. I kept her on Tylenol for 24 hrs and it seemed to help.

Now that we're approaching 11 weeks, we're trying to figure out the napping schedule. The Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child book by Weisbluth helped a lot with my first daughter, so I'm trying to follow it again with this one. She's getting her morning routine down, but the afternoons are still kind of a crapshoot. At this age, I'm just trying to follow her lead.

Hope all is going great for everyone!

Hi Cate & Paige,

Glad you and your babes are doing fine. Joe had his first jabs today. I had to get my husband to come along to hold Joe. I still have a needle phobia, even after all those injections for the fertility treatment. Can't believe he is over 8 weeks already. Everyone says it goes fast and blimey it does, doesn't it? I had him weighed over a week ago and he weighed a whopping 10 lb 7. He must be getting on for 11lb by now. Needless to say he likes his food (just like his mother).

We aren't in any sort of a routine yet. I think we are for a few days and then it all gets messed up again.

The smiles melt your heart don't they? Joe is also very smiley in the mornings but gets grumpier as the day goes on.

Love to all,
Barny

Hello Barny

Hello
Nice to hear from you it's hard I know to find time to check in but nice to hear from people when we do.
The routine thing I wouldn't worry about I have many friends who live by many books which is fine but I think you do have within reason have to do what works for the individual baby and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for every baby.
Also when I have looked into things like bedtimes etc it would be impossible for me to put Kirsty to bed at 6 or 7 pm as because Paul works away from home I am still picking up and dropping off (on foot with pram!) Jess from Guides/cheerleading /swimming/piano/clarinet rehersal /friends etc etc !
Kirsten wakes about 4am for a bottle then I try to leave her asleep and get up myself at 7am lay table put Jess's school stuff out get Jess up then go back upstairs get Kirsty up give bottle then get me dressed then take Jess to school come home. Kirsty drops off in pram during walk. Then I do bottles housework try and see friends etc throughout the day until 3pm go and get Jess run around like maniac with her and eventually we all go to bed about 9.30pm last bottle as close to midnight as I can stay awake!!! then it starts again mind you I suppose that is a routine!!!
She seems to have a bottle about every four hours of 4 ozs and weighs 8lb 15ozs now which the health visitor said is fine following the line in the little red book they give you. Anyway nappy time! speak soon Cate xxx

Barny!

Glad to see you are getting along great. Little Joe sounds like he's doing well too! First jabs....heartwrenching isn't it? He sounds like a big boy! Jessica was 11 lbs 8oz at her 8 week appt and 24 inches long. So she's growing and doing well.

It's so funny that some of us with one baby have had time to catch up. Hopefully all of the new mommies of twins will have time to post as well. I can't imagine what those first 6 weeks were like doing double of what I was been doing. I thought at times I was losing my mind. My husband went on a business trip when Jessica was 3 weeks old and I cried!

Jessica also wakes up sooo happy in the am, but if she doesn't sleep enough during the day ends up to be a bear by the end! Some days she naps for a long time and some days she doesn't. I guess around 12 weeks they are supposed to start consolidating their naps into 3 longish type naps. So I'm looking forward to that.

Talk to you soon,

Paige

Hello Cate, Paige and Barny!

So glad to hear all your little ones are doing well. I feel like I'm just coming out of a fog with my twins about every two weeks. This latest emergence is because Emmett has finally learned to nap! He had colic and even after it went away, he still couldn't nap for another two months. The last two days have been better, so fingers crossed. Jared has always slept like an angel - two 2 hour naps per day.

Both babies go to bed easily at 6:30pm, and wake 1 or 2 times a night for a feeding. I also hate shots and am already dreading the 6 month ones.

Hope everyone is doing okay and enjoying it. I feel gratitude for these little guys every day, no matter how hard it sometimes gets.

Hi Alicia,

Good to hear from you. Glad you and your babes are doing OK. I still don't know how anyone copes with twins. I'm full of admiration.

I can't believe that our babes are nearly 6 months! Where did that 6 months go? The first 3 months were a bit of a blur.

Really enjoying motherhood. Joe's a good boy. We look at him everyday and think how lucky we are. Still can't believe that he is ours sometimes.

Love to all,
Barny

Barny,

Yes! I also can't believe they are nearly 6 months. Sometimes I look at them and feel that I am seeing them for the first time. It's like I get a sensation that I am just coming out of a fog, only I've had it every couple of weeks!

I'm glad you're having fun with Joe. Is he eating solid foods yet? The doctor wants us to wait until 6 months and then we will see.

Alicia,

Yes, we've started on the solids. The advice here is to wait until 6 months but Joe is quite a hungry chap so we started him at 21 weeks. He loves it. We've been taking it slowly though and we've only just moved up to 2 meals a day and still very small quantities. Don't really know what I'm doing but then I haven't since Joe was born! Just kind of make it up as I go along.

He got his first tooth this week. So exciting.

Can you see a difference in the twins personalities already?

Barny,

They are as different looking and acting as they could possibly be! Jared is a party boy. He loves strangers and watching sporting events. Emmett loves music and giving kisses. It is quite amazing. The only bad part is that I'm so busy that sometimes I feel like I'm missing everything that is happening.

Alicia,

It's nice that they have different personalities. Hopefully, they won't argue too much when they're older.

I can't imagine how busy you must be with Emmett and Jared. Joe keeps me busy enough on his own.

Enjoy the little monsters.
