Polycystic Ovary - IVF

Post by Jo R »

Hiya,
Does any one know how Polycystic Ovaries effect IVF???
I have block tubes and one ovary which is polycystic (is someone trying to tell me something)!?. If I have IVF, will they be able to obtain a good egg. I'm really sorry if that sounds stupid.

Thanks
Jo

Hi Jo

I have polycystic ovaries and as far as i know the only way they can affect IVF is that there is an increased risk of over stimulating the ovaries, but rest assured they monitor you to ensure this doesnt happen.

As far as getting an egg goes each time i have had IVF i have had between 8 and 18 eggs so i wouldnt worry about that.

I asked my consultant if the PCO would make a difference to the outcome of IVF and she told me that it shouldnt.

Unfortunately for me i have had no luck yet but i dont think it is the PCO, i seem to have implantation issues and as i am starting my 5th fresh ivf cycle (EC due 1st August) they are giving me extra drugs to maybe help - we can only hope.

I will say that if you have any concerns please talk it through with your clinic and i am sure that they will answer any queries you may have and hopefully put your mind at rest. I wish you all the luck in the world with your treatment.

Take care
Tracey
