Reduction in HCG levels - Week 7 of pregnancy

Post by hand »

Hi was wondering if anybody had a similiar experience. Had IVF & Successful pregnancy resulted. HCG level increased from 138.5 to 251.00 and then reduced to 173.00 in 7th week. Have spoken with the clinic and they advise that this suggests the embryo has died and a natural M/C to follow, however they are insistant on a scan first to determine fully that this has occured. Scan due tommorow and outlook is bleak. Is there any way to determine why a pregnancy fails at this stage, I had two similiar miscarriages at this stage some years ago and wondered is there any specifics that I could check for to see why pregnancy is failing at around week 7. I still have embryos frozen for implanation but, am hesitant to proceed without trying to establish why my pregnancies stop progressing at this stage. Can anyone shed any light.

Hi Hand - I was thinking about your news earlier .... I thought you were due back for a scan on 7th ..

In answer to your question, there is an informative thread called "Ever wondered why IVF Fails - Read On", on the General Forum, which may be of some interest to you. I'll find it and bump it back up to the top of the forum for you.

Let us know how you go on with your scan. The outlook may be bleak, but there must be a small possibility ...

Good luck
