OHSS and pregnancy???

Post by chrissy99 »

Hi, it's been a while since I was last on here. I am now 8+ weeks pregnant with twins and found out last week that I am suffering from mild to moderate OHSS. I have been sick now for 3 weeks with constant nausea/vomiting, bloating and pain. Has anyone gone through this before? I have done nothing but sleep and lay in bed most of the last 3 weeks. My dr. says it could take another 2 weeks for my ovary to get back to normal size and the symptoms to decrease. I am feeling a little better this morning but I don't count on it lasting for long. The dr. did give me something for the nausea and I was told to take Tylenol for pain. Neither really helps. If anyone has any advice please let me know.

I hope everyone is doing well.
Thanks, Chrissy

Hi Chrissy

Im sorry you are having to go through suffering with OHSS. I didnt get it, but know of girls on the pg side who did. If you dont get any replies on here, maybe post on that side to ask?
Good news(!) about OHSS and pregnancy is that I read in a book that the pregnancy is more likely to stick, so keep that thought when you feel bad through it.
Congratulations on your twins. I hope it settles down soon so you can enjoy your pregnancy.
Take care

Hi Chrissy - only just seen your post. I have exactly same and am also 8 weeks pregnant - Come over to 'pregnant after treatment' site and join first trimester friends - you'll get lots of support there. Don't worry about symptoms - mine are just goiing now but as Kim says they can last a little longer. Mine has been helped by plenty of fluids - my clinic says that has helped the condition to pass as it helps flush your system - mainly water not fizzy / caffiene drinks or anything like that. I guess yours will take longer because of twins - congratulations on your pregnancy - relax and don't worry. Did you know that if a heartbeat has been detected at your 8 week scan then you have 97% chance of keeping the baby so don't worry about OHSS - think of it as a little uncomfortable but helpful condition.

OHSS- FLUIDS ARE IMPORTANT

Post by CARINABOO »

Hi Chrissy99,

You sound very lucky and unlucky at the same time! twins, good news. If you are like me right now you are posting on this site flat on your back with a wireless internet laptop (if your lucky) I too am suffering moderate OHSS right now. I get out of bed twice a day just to go to the toilet and put myslef through agonising pain by releasing my bladder. What I have been able to understand is the importance of fluids. I have been sipping regularly - NOT DRINKING TOO MUCH TOO QUICK, i find that ia REALLY bad for the bloated feeling. You do need to stay HYDRATED though. I did not continue with ET as my OHSS had set in even before egg collection and it was boarderline cancelling the cycle. My doctor said if he did the ET and it worked it would take my ALOT longer to get over the OHSS as my hormone levels would have continued to rise...prob end up in hosp for 2mths on a drip. So if you are home and coping (even if it is just coping!)that is a good sign. This is aweful I know but soon the soon the clouds will clear and you will just see those positive rays of sunshine, if you are feeling a few mixed feelings and not 100% excited, you have good reason, it is just the pain clouding it...good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.....go go double trouble!!
