Dummy ET

Post by kagome »

When I had my ET last time, they had some trouble inserting a catheter and had to change the catheter. My doc suggested that I go for a Dummy ET i.e. practice inserting the catheter into my womb to see if it was a one off or not. If they have the same problem, I may need a "small" operation to enlarge my cervix. Frankly, I'm scared of the idea of the operation. Have any of you girls had the same problem? I just want some more information about the operation.

I have never heard of this before. was your bladder full, as this helps I am sure it's gonna be fine. You weren't tense were you?

My bladder was bursting. I had to tell them not to push too hard in case I pee myself. I have to wait for my AF then it's 14 days after that. I do hope I don't have to have a op. I really don't like messing with my body.

Hi,

just to let you know I had ec yesterday and because of previous painful ET they did a dummy ET at the start of EC.Apparantly my Uterus is at a very accute angle and they wanted to be sure they can get access for ET tomorrow....Thankfully they did but they have insisted on a full bladder for ET because apparantly this helps....they did explain but cant really remember what they said....

anyway, thought I would share....You are not alone......
Good luck and I hope it all works out ok

Yes I have had this done , they take you in put you under and stretch your cervix , you dont feel a thing exept when I came round I had a Massive erge to pee and begged for a bed pan How embaressing, anyway bled for a few days . Cant remeber that it was awfull , it was done cause the couldnt get the catheter in too and the first time they had to CLAMP my Cervix wich hurt like hell and I nearly fainted . so dont be scared , but do drink plenty of water cause I havent had to have this done again , I recon it was because they didnt tell me to drink water !!!!

Hope this helped

Hi Kagome,
I had the same problem 6 years ago, the had to clamp my cervix and i agree with Traci, it was the worst pain, no one ever told me to drink lots.
i had the same problem when i had an HSG so you would think it would be in your notes. maybe they dont realise how painful and distressing it is.
I'm going to tell them before i start tmt again. I dont want to be scared of the ET.
