Hi I recently had IVF done and have had a really bad experience. For my fresh cycle they got 15 eggs, 12 fertilized.... I had hyperstimulation, even though I was only started on 200 units of follistim... They decided to wait and do my transfer on the 5th day.. Out of the 12, 5 became blasts.. and they put in 2 and froze the other 3... i did not get pregnant and was upset, but i still had hope in my frozen ones... Today i went in 4 my fet to find out that none of them made it threw the thaw I thought i was going to die... My doctor says that i should try it again , but i was in soo much pain with the first cycle and am spp scared to do this again.. i know they will give me less meds but i just dont seem to believe thats going to work.. What happened to my frozen babies?? Why didnt they make it?? These r the questions i keep asking myself.. My doctor says this rarely happens and they dont really know why it happened... Any advice or similar experiences??

Hi April ... Glad you've found us. Sorry you've had both OHSS and a cancelled FET through failure to thaw. I can imagine just how gutted you felt. I did an FET last cycle and that overnight wait to see if they've thawed is just a killer.
I don't really agree with your doctor - meaning I don't think it's rare for frosties to fail the thaw. We've seen several girls here that have experienced just that. Only 1 of my 2 survived last time. What they do say, though, is that once they have thawed successfully, they have just as much chance of fertilising as a fresh embie.
You've got to believe that it will work next time April. It's called PMA (positive mental attitude) - and it does help ! The docs have learnt so much from the last cycle - how you react etc - and will tailor next cycle to your response.
Why don't you get hold of a copy of Zita West's "Fertility and Conception". I bet you'll start to feel more positive if you read up on the subject, and see just how you can contribute to a healthy body and healthy mind .... You'll be being proactive, and feel more in control. It's a great book - lots of us have got it - and we should have shares in it !
Good luck April ..

I will definately get a copy of that book.. My doctor also suggested that we do insemination, since we never tried it before.. Im hesitant though because the normal sperm rate my hubby has is low, like 7% .. I guess it wouldnt hurt, and i least i wouldnt have to get my eggs ripped out..what do you all think should I try it?? Has anyone had success with these kind of low #s.. My doc said I would take follistim for the insemination, is thia what they really use? Your responses are soo much appreciated.. Lots of luck to all!!!!

I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'sperm rate 7%'. Is that the motility % ? If so, yes - 7% is v. low. 25% (mixture of rapid/slow moving spermies) is 'normal'.
However, if your doc has suggested IUI, it must mean s/he believes there's a possibility of it working ?

you do need to take some drugs for insemination, but far less than for egg collection.
They just want to make sure you produce one or two really good follicles, for the sperm to meet. But they don't want to create 12 or more, like they do for Egg Collection. So the drug regime is not as bad, and the whole cycle is less difficult. It is really just using scans to make sure of the exact day your body is ready, and then doing the insemination.
Thanks 4 ur response.. I had my 1st cycle of iui done.. and im now in the waiting period.. ill find out Monday the 10th.. that is if i dont get my period before that... I feel kinda crampy, so i dont know... What r u currently trying? April
April, if you want to join in the chat with others waiting to test, there's an October 2ww thread over on the General Forum. It will help pass the time!
I'm one of the people Sandra mentioned, as you can see from my signature, I had a FET cancelled last year when neither embie survived defrosting. I don't think it's that uncommon. I'm waiting to have transfer again tomorrow, we've asked our clinic to defrost our last remaining 3 frosties to add to our 1 good fresh embie from EC yesterday. We don't expect all 3 frosties to survive and will be happy if we get one or two suitable for ET.
Good luck with your test on the 10th, if you want to be added to the test dates thread and get some support that way on the General Forum, post me a message on that thread.
