Embryo Quality?

Post by doraglasses »

Hi, am a newbie here; read almost all the topics on the message board, and felt like I'm not the only one with so many questions and doubts (messages very encouraging).

Recently went thru my 3 rd IVF cycle (with ICSI): 8 eggs retrieved, 5 fertilized of which the embryo quality was not that great:
1-8 cell, grade 2.1
1-5 cell, grade 2.3
2-3 cell, grades 2.3/3.1
1-2 cell

Had the 8, 5 and 3 cells embryo transferred; frankly I've already lost all hope, but just wanted to find out if it were still possible for any of the embryo's to implant???? Have my pregnancy test on Sept. 16!!!!!!!

Good luck to all!

Dora, I have learned that sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to what makes it to implantation and what doesn't. I have seen embryos that looked severly fragmented on day three result in twin pregnancy and embryos that belonged in a textbook they were so beautiful result in no pregnancy. So don't be discouraged. If your embryos are hearty they should keep dividing, segregating out the fragments during the blast/hatching process. Always have hope and prayer.

Dora / Ms Glasses  hi and welcome. Please don't give up before you start, it will make for a horrendous 2ww. It's usually painfully slow at the best of times as it is.

My best advice is assume positive, fix a smile to your face - it's only 12 days, you can do it and join in the chat on the September 2ww thread. Everyone on there is waiting for their test day and will understand/support/cajole as needed.

best of luck
Debra.

Just to repeat what the others have said – it’s totally possible to get a +ve out of lesser-quality embryos. I myself always get textbook-perfect, grade 1, hatched blastos – you really cannot get better than that – yet I still haven’t managed to get pg after 3 cycles, yet some women have had 2-cell embies replaced and got a +ve result. Don’t give up yet.

Oh my god - your embryos sound fab. You already have an 8 cell and 2 other really well developed embryos. Personally I would feel good about Grade 2 / 3 - there's something to be said for a little fragmentation - I believe it helps the embryos implant. My third ICSI resulted in 2 Grade 2/3 embies and I was devastated - my worse embies to date - my first two cycles had been really good top Grade 2 but no pregnancy. Then out of the blue - my poor little 'lower quality' embie resulted in pregnancy and I'm now 11 weeks pregnant. Have faith - your embies sound fantastic - be proud of them,

Hi Dora, I was reading through the different threads and yours caught my eye. I too have had less than perfect quality embies. I am on my 3rd IVF/ICSI cycle, the first I had 2 4-cell embies grades 4 & 5 transferred which ended in a BFN. The 2nd cycle, I didn't get any fertilization out of my 7 eggs. This cycle I had 9 eggs, 7 mature, and 5 fertilized. They transferred 1 7-cell grade 3, and 2 5-cell grade 2. I have my test on 9/23.

Didn't you test yesterday? I'm praying you got wonderful news!

Hey Jessica,

Till date I always remember Cheryl's words "Have faith - your embies sound fantastic - be proud of them". This was one of the most beautiful statements I came across on this board. I just feel bad I doubted my embies (which yesterday gave me a BFP!).

Shall be thinking about you on 9/23, wishing you loads and loads of luck!
Take Care,
Dora

Dora...CONGRATULATIONS! Such Wonderful News! I am so happy for you. It is also gives me such hope for my embies too. Enjoy your pregnancy!

Smita, I'd love to be added to the thread...how do I get on?

I'm feeling pretty good, I think the progesterone has been making me tired though, and my ovaries are still recuperating from the EC. I'm trying not to read into anything with my body since I know progesterone mimics pregnancy symptoms. Today is my first day back at work, and it's great to be here and keeping my mind busy.
