Blastocyst Embryo?

Post by CARINABOO »

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone knows if embryos that have been frozen on the 5-6 day from Blastocyst culture have a better chance of pregnancy occuring than being frozen earlier in day 2 or 3?? I had 12 eggs fertilized and everyday they rang me and lost a couple a day up until day 6 when they had 3 left and froze them. I am not sure why they didnt freeze them earlier like people on here talk about. He also never said anything about grade or quality of my embryos....just that I had 3 viable for freezing?? I am wondering whether this means I have 3 top quality chances?? Thanks for any tips.

Carina,
My clinic froze 2 embies for me saying they only freeze if the embies reach a certain grade cause only then the chances of survival after the thaw are brighter..
I think the main part lies in the thawing..
and no one has any say in that..
hope this helps..

I get to blastocyst stage each time and my clinic will only freeze any embies that actually reach blastocyst on day 5. My first 2 attempts I never had any to freeze, just the 2 blastos left to transfer. This last time I had a lot more eggs so on day 5 I had 9 blastos left – 2 transferred and 7 frozen. My clinic always put me in the blastocyst programme, which means that they won’t do any day 2 freezing as obviously they want to implant the best blastos in me, so this means monitoring all the embies. It’s survival of the fittest really. Their rationale is that if they stopped developing, they wouldn’t have had much chance frozen. Every clinic differs though – a lot do day 2 or 3 transfers and then just freeze the rest.

Many clinics over here rate the chances of frozen blastocyst as high if not higher than a fresh day 2 or 3 cycle.

On my last cycle I has 10 blastocysts and 8 of those were frozen.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
I have six day old frozen blastocysts , so I have done a lot of reading in medical journals about this very topic. Here is what I remember.

In a study embryos frozen on day three had a higher thaw rate than those frozen at the blastocyst stage, but those frozen and thawed at the blastocyst stage had a higher rate of implantation when compared to those frozen and thawed on day three.
If I remember correctly more than one study showed no significant difference in the pregnancy rate between day 3 and day 5 embryos.

Also, I would agree with the rest of the ladies. I doubt any clinic would freeze blastocysts unless they were of high quality, but even knowing all of this I still worry
