How is this possible??

Post by americnliberty »

I am so confused about what is going on with my body and our pregnancy!! It’s kind of a long and complicated story, so I’ll try and simplify it as much as I can.

We had our first ultrasound at 7 weeks. Dr. reported that all she could see was a single sack and couldn’t detect any fetal tissue. Thinking I had missed carried, I did a HCG blood test to verify my levels where dropping. To her surprise my levels (almost) doubled from 26,000 on 9/23 to 42,700 on 9/26. Plus I still had all my symptoms such as nausea and breast tenderness.

She wanted to give it a week so at 8 weeks (past last period/6 past insemination) we had another ultrasound. She said nothing had changed…sac only measured at 5 weeks, still no fetal tissue and sent us to the grief counselor calling it a blited ovum. BTW she did also note that she saw “bubbles” in there as well but couldn’t explain what it was. After considering our options, we decided to go ahead with the D & C since my body still hadn’t realized I had miscarried.

We saw another Dr. today, who has worked with infertility before (unlike the other Dr.) for our pre operation visit and he wanted to do another scan to see for himself…Bless This Man!!

He quickly found the empty sac that our original Dr. pointed out and confirmed her findings. But after looking around some more he found those ‘bubbles’ the other Dr. ignored. He took some pics and started asking serious questions about our insemination, the drugs we took, what milligrams, dates and symptoms. After finishing up we met him in his office where he had the ultrasound picture on his desk and quickly announced the surgery was off as of right now.

He explained that those spots she thought where ‘bubbles’ looked like three other sacs! He said one didn’t look viable but the other two had shades of gray but he couldn’t get a good enough picture to tell. After a lot of explaining, we where left with these three possibilities. (best case) 1. We may have started out with 4 embryos, two were not viable leaving us with a possible twin pregnancy…still with the chance of miscarrying. 2. Same outlook but possible none are viable. (and worst case) 3. A possible molar pregnancy!! He said more tests would have to be done but with my HCG levels, he was almost certain it was a either a multiple pregnancy or the slight chance of a molar pregnancy which also gives high HCG levels.

I did another blood test today and hopefully will find out the outcome tomorrow. I have to wait and receive my appt. to do another ultrasound at the radiology clinic which apparently they will be able to tell us more. This whole week has just been an emotional roller coaster for my husband and I!! It’s just so many what ifs? and we still don’t have any definite answers. I don’t think I have any questions, not sure why I even posted but I guess I just needed to vent to people who could understand. Sorry this was so long, just imagine having to live through this over the past week! I am going to keep up the PMA and pray for a miracle!

Thank you all so much for your kind words and thoughts!!

Still haven't heard anything yet but keeping my thoughts positive. If I don't get a call by this afternoon I am going to call them just so I can know what my levels are.

My thoughts are with you littlep on how a qualified Dr. could miss that! It really freaks me out that I could have had the D&C and lost my possible other two babies. Needless to say I'm going to keep the Dr. I am seeing now and never see that other woman again!!

Thanks again ladies!! I'll let you know when I find anything out!

Ok, well Dr. just called me and informed me that my levals are 106,000!

He seemes concerned about how high the levels are, which makes me a little worried. But he scheduled an ultrasound with radiology for Tuesday and we will find out then. The ultrasound will show either a multiple pregnancy and things go on as normal or a molar pregnancy and they will operate that day to remove it.

We are praying everything is ok and it's nothing more serious then a multiple pregnancy. Do you think those HCG levels sound normal?
