Has anyone had problems absorbing Progesterone Suppositries

Post by Karron »

Hi Everyone

Well where do I start - I had my first FET on Thursday, 3 days later I started getting a brown discharge by the following day this had turned to red and was fairly consistent throughout the day and by the evening it had turned into a full blown period, 3 days later and I am still bleeding. I telephoned the Hospital and spoke with a Doctor who asked if I had missed any medication, which I haven't, she was confused as to why this had happened but told me that she was pretty certain that this was a period and that the cycle had failed although I am to still continue with the medication and still test next Thursday (although not to hold out much hope).

Anyway I called the Hospital today to make an appointment to see a Doctor and I spoke to the Nurse on the phone and she said that it sounds like my body may have not absorbed the progesterones suppos. although I didn't get my period until the day before testing on my last fresh cycle (this was a negative result). On my last cycle I used the suppos. in the front entrance and this time around I used them in the back entrance. Anyway I have my appointment in 2 weeks time so should get some answers then.

Can anyone tell me if they have had problems absorbing the progesterone suppos.

Also (TMI, I am sorry) this time as I was using the suppos. in the back door, every time I went to the toilet it was coated in the white stuff from the suppos. is that normal or do you think that was the majority coming out.

Your help and advice would be great.

Good luck to you all.

Hi Karron,

I used progesterone for my last cycle - I think they were called crinone gel. I was told to use them in the front entrance so to speak and to be honest I wondered during my 2ww if they were being absorbed properly as everytime I urinated I had a few white crumbly bits on the tissue. I tested negative after 2 weeks and was told to stop all medication - once I stopped the medication it took a few days for my AF to come. Once my AF came I found I was not only bleeding but also for about 3 days I had what seemed like a never ending discharge of white crumbly crinone gel - sorry if this is TMI but at one point I had a discharge of crinone gel that was bigger than a tampon!!! At my review meeting with the clinic I explained all of this and they weren't that worried and are planning to give me a different version of the progesterone next time....

Hope this helps :) ,

Sam

Hi there, I've always been prescribed Crinone which are pessaries (eg. vaginal only). I've never had problems with them, no leaking etc. From your description yes it does sound like a lot was lost whilst going to the loo. Perhaps they'll focus on this aspect next time? it might be worth asking if they advise one way or the other.

My clinic have changed the progesterone protocol slightly since my last cycle in April. This time I had 3 deep shots (in the bum) before ET and I have to use Crinone twice a day not once like before.

Hi Karron

I should have added that I also had to take progesterone pills 3 times a day.

Hi Karron

I'm sorry you've got this worry. I've used the progesterone pessaries (Cyclogest) - both front and back.

I found using them the front way that if I laid down from 20 mins after inserting, I lost much less than inserting and standing up straight away.

When I used them the back way I don't recall losing any at all.

Hope you get some answers at your appointment.

Karron, I found this post interesting. My last 2 cycles were both -ve and I always started bleeding on Day 12 and full AF arrived day 13. My clinic are wondering if I have a hormone imbalance - but specifically a lack of progesterone, since it's obvious my womb lining collapses early. On my first cycle I inserted the Cyclogest pessaries in vaginally, though I found the white stuff was messy. On that occasion I had a +ve but still starting bleeding on day 14 and went on to lose the pgcy. Last 2 cycles however I inserted rectally simply because I found it less messy. Like you, I saw lots of white stuff but I'd always assumed it was just wax and not the actual progesterone.

I'll be starting a natural FET in November and this time the clinic will be monitoring my progesterone and possibly prescribing more pessaries a day or injections. I certainly plan to insert the pessaries vaginally this time though.

Hi

Like Sandra I have also used the progesterone pessaries (Cyclogest) - both front and back. I was told at the hospital that if you insert them in the front to lie down for 20mins (again as sandra said)

I was also told to expect white discharge as this is the waxing coating on the pessary.

Sorry you are worried about this write down all your questions before you go to the see the doctor

i used the progesterone pessaries/suppositories on my first two attempts and so much came out of me that i was sure that i couldn't be absorbing enough of them for them to be of any use. they also really upset my tummy.

for my 3rd attempt i had to inject HCG three times a week which makes you produce your own progesterone. this was so much better - tummy better, no mess, i knew i was getting the drug and self-injecting doesn't bother me one bit. my attempt failed but next time i will be having HCG again instead of the pessaries.
