Odd reaction to buserelin

Post by amfy »

Started 5ml injections last Thursday (6th October) and something strange happenned yesterday.

I was driving, and got a load of blobs in front of my eyes, a bit like after you look straight into a bright light, but then I was left with a big blur right in the middle of my vision, then my vision just kind of cracked up, like broken glass or a kaleidescope. I pulled over and called my partner to come and get me. My eyes were really quite painful by this point but I think that might have just been the strain of trying to make sense of my vision.

I went straight to eye casualty because i have glaucoma and thought it might be connected to that, but after thorough checks, my glaucoma is fine (eyes actually very healthy). The doctor said that what I described is caused by an interruption or narrowing of the blood supply to the eye, caused either by a migraine or mini-stroke! He thinks it is connected to my IVF treatment.

I am pretty scared now, partially about the idea of a mini stroke, and partially because I'm worried that when I ring my clinic tomorrow, they may say I have to stop the treatment.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Hi Amfy,

I find when on Buserlin on the higher dose before stimms and to a lesser extent when stimming that I get blurry or poorer vision.

As it is putting us into a mini-menopause I guess its not unusual. Do have yourself checked out with the clinic and i hope everything returns to normal and you can continue with your cycle.

Thanks for that Nuala - it's comforting to know someone else has experienced something like this.

Amfy - sorry to hear about your bad experience:(

Just wondered if you have ever been checked for clotting problems - like antiphospholipid syndrome, Factor V Leiden or MTHFR.

I have one copy of the Factor V Leiden gene mutation. I found out after have several m/cs and now use a form of heparin along with low dose aspirin if pregnant.

My sister had an episode rather like yours. She ended up having brain scans, the works, and was initially diagnosed with migraine with aura. They have now concluded that she probably has a clotting problem (likely to be the same as me) and had a mini stroke. She has been told to take low dose aspirin daily.

Good luck:)
