Weight gain

Post by brs888 »

Hi, ladies :) I am not a person totally obsessed with weight, and am in fact about 10 pounds over my ideal weight. However, I am just about 8 weeks and my weight has fluctuated so much! I lost four pounds, then gained them back, and I got on the scale this morning and it appears I have gained four pounds already! I am hoping this is fluid or something :P

I read somewhere that you should only gain 2-3 pounds in the 1st trimester. I don't want to gain too much weight, but I want to be getting all the nutrients to my growing baby. I feel as though I am eating very healthy and only eat when I am hungry. I try to eat small meals througout the day as recommended. I am just curious to see how much you all have gained and also to see if you have any recommendations on some healthy, filling, low calorie snacks. I usually snack on dried fruit, fresh fruit, cheese, or nuts.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Smita :) It helps to hear that the doc says everything is okay...how have you been feeling? It sounds like you're doing fantastically!

Brandy

I spoke to my Midwife about weight gain and she said not to worry too much. As long as you repond to your body when it tells you it's hungry, then you are doing the right thing. Books recommend that you need to eat between 200-300 more calories a day and should eat healthily - definitely not diet.

To be honest, at the beginning I was paranoid about everything I ate, thinking I should only eat certain healthy foods - now I eat what I want, when I want. I intend to enjoy this pregnancy and if I eat a small cake or have a biscuit now and then so be it.

I have gained about 5-6 lbs so far.

Wishing you a happy pregnancy and an enjoyable one.

Brandy

Just thought I would let you know - I had my 20 weeks scan today and asked about my weight gain. She said that as Little One was spot on not to worry too much. She said if you're eating when you're hungry then that's all that matters.

Obviously eating some healthy food is important, but the odd indulgence now and then does us all some good.

You should avoid diet food though as some of the goodness has been removed from things like that.

Hope you are ok and things are going well for you.

Brandy,

I agree with little P, my dr is not obsessed over the weight thing and it hits every woman differently....As long as sugar, bp and baby are normal that don't worry! I have gained 12 lbs so far and 4 was in the first trimester....Like little P I eat when I am hungry...I am hungry more often throughout the day but each serving isnt a full meal....WHen I crave chips and stuff I try to eat pretzels and sweets I lean towards apples and oranges....

Thank you everyone for all of the tips and advice. I am now only two pounds over my starting weight, so I must have had some fluid being stored for a couple of days. Baby is right on track as far as size goes. So, I guess what you are telling me is that I am doing okay and not to worry...right?! Now you sound like my husband :!: Just kidding :P

Take care everyone :0
