Not really new, but...

Post by lynne »

Hi girls.
It's ages since I posted so thougtht I would just reintroduce myself. I have been watching the posts and catching up on everyone. There is some GREAT news and some really sad news too.
Things haven't been great since I last posted (in July) and I felt I had nothing positive to contribute, but Christmas is on it's way and I know you girls out there will all be supporting each other and I want to be part of that.
Anyway a brief history: DH has 3 children by previous relationship. DH had neg. vasectomy reversal c. 4 years ago. We had 3 -DIUI with Clomid, so started adoption process. We realised this was the wrong decision. DH has now had TESE. We were supposed to start ICSI cycle 2 weeks ago, but couldn't so hopefully Jan (can't do Dec as clinic is closed over Christmas).
I am 36, 37 in January and becoming all the more aware that time is not on my side. DH is 50 and didn't want more children, thus the time it has taken me to persuade him to have TESE. His need is not nearly as great as mine.
This week his youngest son's wife gave birth to a girl, making this his 3rd grandchild, so it's not been the easiest of weeks.
I am trying to go for the healthy eating, no alcohol, my body is a temple regime, but just feel like I am depriving myself. :? I am also working 60 hours a week to pay for the treatment (we had a nasty shock thanks to DH which cleaned me out).
He is decorating as I write this and I am NOT helping. I think I've done my bit. I feel ever so guilty. I've told him I have to practice not lifting anything heavy! Not sure he believes me.
I hope some of your PMA comes this way before Jan. I really need it!

Hi Lynne,

Welcome (or welcome back!)

We are in similar positions, my DH had an unsuccessful reversal and we are going down the PESE/TESE route too. Luckily I have never had to convince him of this because he always said he would have more children (he has 3 teenagers). I know what you mean though about it not being the same for him, the need can't be half as bad.

Like your idea about practicing not lifting heavy things! My DH was painting the dining room yesterday and I didn't help either, don' feel guilty about that!

Hope the New Year brings you all your dreams. I am hoping to cycle early in the NY too, just waiting for DH to have his op and then it is all systems go.

Hello Lynne and welcome back!

Hehe, you story made me smile (not because of going through IVF of course) but because it was just like I was reading mine!!

DH is 52, had vasectomy with previous wife, didnt want any more children but I convinced him to have TESE (last december,it worked!).But it took me 3 years to get him to have the op!
His son had a baby boy last december as well, so he is now twice grand dad.

Our first ICSI last april did not work, and we have been saving until now for a 2nd chance. It will be in January because the clinic is closed for Xmas!!
I dont have any children, so as you said, i guess it is more important foe me..

So we will be buddy in Janury! cant wait to have our own thread :P

Well good luck!

Take care
xxx

Hi girls.
Little P I am so happy for you. I've been keeping an eye on things over the last few weeks and see that baby ticker counting down every day! You must be thrilled
Souris, looks like we are in very similar situations. It is the time it takes for these guys to make up their minds which gets me down. It makes you wonder why we bother, doesn't it? DH and I have been together 12 years and it is only now we are going for our first ICSI. Sometimes it makes me feel very sad reading these boards as I see couples going through the pain together. Although DH can sympathise, it is neither here nor there to him if I get pregnant or not. He says it 'would be nice'! Ho hum...
KT, if DH has still to have his operation I wouldn't go with the 'I'm practicing not lifting' strategy quite yet. My dearest H was in bed for 3 days and acting like he'd been shot, boiled in hot oil and thrown to Piranhas for another week- milking it something rotten  (Don't panic though, he was in some discomfort, but nothing a paracetamol couldn't cure- I promise your DH will be fine.) So unless you want to wait on him hand and foot, I'd leave the tactics until about a week after his full recovery. Then start in earnest!! Though I think I've blown it already by spending the day on my hands and knees scrubbing floors. Think he's seen through my ruse already.
I can't wait to get back to work tomorrow for a rest.

Incidentally, I was at a funeral today (I'm a singer, I was 'the turn', no idea who'd died) and they read the passage about there being a season for everything, a time to reap and a time to sew. Usually I don't take much notice, but I suddenly thought today, well maybe it is our turn now. Maybe we shall be lucky this year.
So Souris and KT, my Jan buddies, I'll try and hang onto that over Christmas!
