1st time on ICSI

Post by 27chapel »

My partner and I are on the ICSI programme and I am sniffing and jabbing and going for day 7 scan on Friday. Not sure what to expect - how many follicles should there be?
After that we will have to do to Lister next week for egg collection, fingers crossed for that - am so worried about everything - just want this to work so badly.
Any advice?

Hi Jane and welcome!
You are not alone worrying about everything. I know it's easier said than done, but the process is so much easier if you relax into it and go with the flow. Ask questions, however! As many as you can - I've heard so many people on these boards using the phrase "information is power"!
Regarding the number of follicles, this varies greatly between women. My clinic need to see at least 3 follicles of at least 17mm before they will do egg collection. I was very slow to start off with - had lots of follies but only very small in size. I panicked (bang goes my advise about relaxing!!) but did catch up.
If you post over on the genral forum, you'll find more people over there. You may like to join "november Buddies" as that's where everyone actually going through treatment hang out!
Good luck with everything - you are in good company!

Hi Jane

As Cla said, every woman varies in how many follies are produce - and indeed the same woman can vary immensely from cycle to cycle. Although we all concentrate on just how many follies there are / how many eggs are retrieved, you've got to remember that it really is quality rather than quantity that counts. It really is much better to have 5 good quality, mature eggs than half a dozen that aren't up to much.

Saying that, you do need 3 follies of around 17-18mm for the hcg injection / EC to take place.

I wish you the best for your Day 7 scan today ..!!
