Lonely, scared: New to IVF

Post by Mel_P »

Hi Guys,
Mel here. Would be good to talk to someone. Have been "dealing with infertility" for 5 years, and FINALLY am undergoing IVF for the first time. (gotta love those waiting lists!)
Am in the waiting stage after embryo transfer 2 days ago, but am convinced I have pre-menstrual symptoms already. I just feel so exhausted with the whole journey, I know I should be feeling hopeful, but I am just dreading failure. I dont know how I will cope if it doesnt work. After going through this for so long my energy reserves are so low and I feel desperate. Anyone else had IVF and is it normal to feel like your period is still due and be pregnant????

Hi Mel and welcome!!

If you go on the general forum ,there is a thread for all the ladies on the 2ww (2 weeks wait)... they will help you not to go too nutty...
You need to keep your spririt up!

The symptoms are different with everyone... but I have read many times that pregnancy syptoms are similar than AF one's ( my sister who had a natural pregnancy also told me that!)

Loads of baby dust! And loads of PMA

Take care

Hi Mel and welcome to the site.
Sorry to hear you are feeling so low. Like Souris said there are plenty of ladies over on the general forum who can support, advise and share the roller coaster with you! You may like to try the November buddies or the 2ww (two week waiters)
Some of the initials are tricky to start with eg DH = dearest hubsband
but if you get stuck there is a 'sticky' thread at the top of the forum which will help.

Good to meet you and good luck with your tmt

Hi Mel,

I am also new to this site and to IVF. I am just waiting to start treatment after being diagnosed wiht male factor problems 4 months ago.

However I do have two children so I would just like you to know that early pregnacy symptons are virtually the same as pms symptoms. You can have sore breasts, tiredness, feeling sick, bloatedness and irritability for both!

So my advice would be to not pre-empt the result and be open minded (easier said than done). However I will probably be the same when my time comes.

Take Care
Roseann

p.s, was your partner allowed in with you during egg recovery?

Hi Roseann and others,
Thanks heaps for the positive feedback and I am kicking myself for being such a wet blanket! Am working hard to send positive vibes to the little embby down there, and I know just have to be hopeful!!

Roseann, my partner was there at egg collection. He had the all important job of keeping me calm by regulating the music in my i-pod, but I ended up with missy elliot blaring down my ears ... don't ask!! I was so occupied with getting him to change the music though, it worked as a nice distraction! That whole process all up was a lot easier and quicker than I could have imagined. Am happy to chat to you about any of the IVF if your curious or have questions. All up my experince of it has been positive, results pending of course! Take care, and let me know how you get on too!

Hi Mel

Welcome to the site. You will find a lot of support on here.
Just to confirm what the others have said. I had AF (period) type pains the night before my +ve test, and then on a daily basis through the first 12 weeks.
Dont be too hard on yourself re feeling negative! Its one of the most stressful things you can go through, not to mention what the drugs do to your hormones! I didnt discover this site until I was pregnant, but I was lucky to have a good friend to who I let off a lot of steam to during the whole process. I think the worst thing is that its all out of your control.
Wishing you all the best and hoping you get a BFP!!
