2 embro and Triples???

Post by jp »

Hi Friends...I'm back here.

I had my 1st scan other day and we found out that I'm pregnant with Triples. I don't know how did that happaned? I thought they only put 2 embros. I have identical twins and 1 alone. What's going on here I really dunno. I don't even know what to write.

All 3 of them having heart beat but doctor suggested me that I should get rid of 1 embro ASAP by some kind of chemical to let others to grow well. He also said there are 3 to 4% chances of loosing the whole pregnancy by using that chemical. Should I take chance?

I'm very very Happy but sad at same time. Someone please help me what should I do? Should I keep all of them or only 2? What if I keep all and Baby wont grow well? Share your experience with me. I'm really counfused.

Jp.

JP,
what a tough time you are going through..
I know one lady on this thread- HM had to go through this.. she started off with triplets as well- I cant begin to imagine how agonising this is for you, but whatever you decide may it be for the best.
I would personally listen to my doctor no matter how much heartbreak it caused me..
Maybe you could pm HM??

Hugs,

Hi JP

Congratulations on your pregnancy. You must be going through such a dilemma at the moment. I can recommend posting on this board: http://www.tamba.org.uk/html/messageboa ... e99b480054 - there's a special board for triplet parents and parents to be and I know that a couple of girls on there have been through the same dilemma recently (both decided to stick with the triplet pregnancy).

All the best.

Not sure if I can help as this is a VERY VERY personal choice that only you can make and at the end of the day whatever you decide will be the right choice for you. However my tuppence worth is...

If he has suggested this embryo reduction due to a large possibility of serious difficulties that will risk all 3 children and its for that reason entirely then take your Doc's advice otherwise tell him to take a hike!

Hope this helps and congrats on your pregnancy:)

Hi JP,

I can only speak from personal experience here, and whatever i say should no way influence your decision.

We had IUI in Feb 2004, and to our delight our first scan showed triplets. We too were told to consider selective reduction, and we did think long and hard about it. Basically selective reduction is where they inject one baby with sodium to put it to sleep. We were given a fortnight to think about our decision as we were told that after 9-10 weeks the SR would be more difficult to perform.

Well, we went away and we agonised over it, we really really did. I could see in one way it may make sense in the fact that it would give our other babies a better chance, etc, and on the other hand, i found it really difficult as we'd gone through so much to get pregnant in the first place.

The thing that made my mind up was seeing a TV programme about a woman in the US, who'd given birth to septuplets (7) babies. The programme followed her story from her second scan onwards. They were obviously advised to SR, and something the father said really hit home to me. He said ' we made a list of pro's and con's to having all the babies, and the con's drastically outweighed the pro's, the fact that the cost would be enormous, how we'd cope etc'. He then said 'the only pro that we could find was that we wouldn't be killing any of our babies.'

That really hit home for me. I talked to DH and he agreed that we'd made the right decision, to keep all our babies. Once we'd made the decision, it was like a weight had been lifted from us, and although we were terrified, we knew we'd made the right choice for us. We even nicknamed our babies, we called them 'Snap, Crackle and Pop', and we knew that we'd cope somehow.

Sadly though, fate interviened, and i started having bad pains at around 9 weeks of pregnancy. I went for a scan and it confirmed that one of our precious babies had stopped growing. We were utterly devastated, but still very relieved that we hadn't opted for SR after all.

Our surviving son, Brennan, will always know that he was once a part of triplets, we have scan photo's, that we'll keep to show him.

I know it's an incredibly hard decision, and ultimately, only one that you can make. Whatever you do decide, i wish you all the luck in the world with it.

Love and best wishes,

Heather xxx
Got pregnant with IUI triplets in March 04. One triplet stopped growing at 9 weeks. Gave birth to twin boys in Sep 04, Ciaran sadly lost his fight. Brennan's thriving.Looking to give Brennan a sibling soon.

JP - don't know if you get Daily Mail but there was an article today (Fri 27th) about a couple in the same boat as you. After IVF they had two identical and 1 singleton after one embryo split. They now have 3 two year old triplet girls and had same agonising decision to make as you do. Obviously, its all very personal but thought you might appreciate reading someone elses story - see if you can get hold of it or search through internet for it. They were really glad they had ignored doctors advice but it really all depends on personal circumstances - have a read, it might give you another perspective on things.

Best wishes,
Cherylxxx

JP - I wanted to wish you all the luck in the world, and all the strength to make the decision that is right for you & DH.

My doctor told me that egg splitting is more common with IVF pregnancies, and triplets are not uncommon after 2 ET's. It must be so heartbreaking to have made your decision to have twins (if they both took) only now to be faced with a decision on what to do with triplets.

I have no advice, only that you will know what is right for you. Good luck - I will be thinking of you.

Only just seen your news JP - I'm so sorry about your twins - it must be devastating. As Gav says, there must be many people who lose multiples without knowing but it's particularly hard after treatment because we get to see so much so early. Maybe it is for the best and perhaps now your remaining set will have a much stronger chance but I know that's easy to say and I hope it doesn't sound insensitive - my heart goes out to you. I really hope everything works out for you,

I'm sorry about the loss of your twins, JP. I know of another girl who was pregnant with quads and lost one set of twins at 12 weeks. The rest of her pregnancy was a straighforward twin pregnancy and she now has 4 month old twin girls so hopefully that gives you some hope.

Hi. I just wanted to say I am sorry for you're loss, but at the same time I wish you all the best for your twins.

I am currently pregnant with twins, and even though I wasn't faced with having to make a decision at the start like you were, I previously lost a pregnancy which was the worse thing ever - I wouldn't wish that upon anyone.

I do believe that some things happen for a reason, and even if you never know what that reason is, I do think that because you were not the ones to decide which of you're precious babes were not to be with you at this moment in time, that just shows you that the two that you have left are more than precious, and are more than meant to be here.

I was told that I would probably never have children, and now I am nearly 22 wks pregnant with twins. After my loss and the traumas that I have had to go through to get to where I am, I feel so blessed, and I do believe that my babies are definately supposed to be here with me now.

I know that probably doesn't comfort you very much and nothing can take away the feelings of having lost your twins, but I do wish you every luck and happiness.

Take care.
