Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

Post by april »

Hello
I am new here so I apologize if I'm at the wrong forum.
I have been battling this problem for 8yrs and its getting harder everyday. Iam 30 years old and trying very hard to have another child for the last past 8yrs, with no results. Is there any other women out there that have this problem. My doctor has giving a medication that treats diabetic problems ? I dont have diabetes, but she says this may help me ovalate. PLEASE HELP

Hi,
I too have PCOS and asked my Dr to prescribe me metformin to stop my monthly migraines i was having and hopefully assist my quest to lose 3 stone.
I had regular blood tests and i still failed to ovulate ? ?
I was however told to stop the metformin when i start ICSI treatment.
They did help me to lose weight though which was a bonus, but if i get pregnant that will go out of the window for now anyway ! !
Good luck
Becky

Hello I also found out that I have PCO. I was put on metformin during the ivf treatment to help me produce more eggs. I don't know whether I would of gotten pregnant on it alone though.

Hello!
I also have PCOS and am currently taking metformin after starting taking it whilst on clomid. When I took clomid on its own I failed to ovulate but with metformin I did. So I am now on just metformin whilst we wait to see a consultant for IVF. Can't tell you if it works on its own yet as it is my first month... but have lost nearly a stone in weight!
Good luck, Vanessa x

Hi April

I'm sorry to hear about the problems you're having with PCOS.

A couple of years ago I finally plucked up the courage to consult my doctor as I'd been ttc for 3 years. Initial blood tests showed that I might have PCOS and being the research maniac that I am, I went out and bought the book that Caz is referring to (Harris & Carey). As it turns out, I don't have PCOS at all but blocked tubes (long story!). I therefore have an unused copy of this book sat on my book shelf and would be more than happy to let you have it, if it's of interest. Just shout/e-mail if you want it!

Lots of luck in your quest!

Helen x
