+ive hpt before blood test - accurate?

Post by kristiA »

I've noticed that most of your RE's have you do the blood test/pregnancy test on day 11 after a 3 day ET. My RE makes me wait until day 16 after a 3 day ET. I've been avoiding the spare hpt that was left in my cabinet since I've read so much about getting a -ive prior to the blood test and losing PMA.

But today I figured it's day 14 after 3 day ET, so that's later than most of you test...and 2 days before my RE will test....so my curiousity got the best of me and I tried it...knowing full well that it wouldn't be a result I should take as a fact. And expecting a -ive.

It was BFP, and the pregnancy line was a dark as the test line. I've heard of false +ives given that we might have some hcg in our system from the drugs, but haven't seen any posts about this. I only see where people got a false -ive and then a positive with the blood test.

Have any of you got a +ive hpt and then had it be -ive with the blood test? Or if I'm already at day 14 after 3 day ET do you think my +ive is accurate?

Krista, in my 2+ years on here, I don't think I've ever read of a +ve hpt and a -ve beta unless there's been bleeding inbetween. I think you've reason to start smiling!

Congratulations!
Debra

ps. I don't think most people on here test on Day 11 with a 3-day ET. I'd say most are Day 14 although I can think of a couple of people who have to wait until Day 17 as that's their clinic's protocol.

Thanks Debra! Two years of experience on this site means you'd probably know the answer to that. I just registered today to ask this question, but have been on the message boards everyday for the past 6 weeks learning from everyone during my IVF cycle. No, I haven't had any spotting, cramps, or any sympton. Thanks for clarifying when most people generally test. Sounds like I can be optimistic (cautious though of course). Blood test is Thursday with RE. Thanks!

Congrats!!

The trigger shot is gone by day 14 so it sounds like a BFP to me!!

I just found out that same thing by searching online. It said that by day 14 after the trigger shot (which has hcg in it) that it would be out of your system and safe to do a hpt without a fear of getting a false +ive. Today would be 19 days since I did the trigger shot. I'm getting optimistic that this might actually be a BFP. I'll confirm on Thursday after the blood test.

Thanks everyone! I went this morning to my RE. They send the blood work out to a lab so they won't have the results until tomorrow now! But they did tell me that if I got the positive hpt 2 days ago (14 days after ET and 19 days after trigger shot) that the positive should be accurate as all the hcg from the trigger shot is gone by that day. I'm nervous and have butterflies in my stomach! I still won't completely believe it until the results tomorrow. I'll let you know. Thanks for the encouraging words.
