kidney infection & gall bladder during pregnancy

Post by mandyb »

hi guys
any info from anyone appreciated. been having pain in right hand side little lower than rib cage & mid lower back ache ( not bone kind off muscular). ended up at docs on friday who has diagnosed an enlarged gall bladder and a kidney infection. weeks worth of antibiotics to get swelling down and rid on infection. Thinks it may be " stones" anyone else suffered or know how it is caused , how to help it and if it is contra indicated for pregnancy? help appreciated.....

Hi Mandy sorry to hear you are not well. I always get my GP to check with my obstetrician before prescribing any drugs, that's how they worked out what they could give me when I slipped the disk in my neck..

I know one girsl who had to have her appendix out while 7 months pg!!!

hope you feel better soon

Hi mandyb, I had the same situation. When I was pregnant with my daughter in 1997-1998, I used to get pain inder the rib cage exactly like you said. I didn't know what it was and didn't also mention with the doctor about that. I used to get mostly right after I ate anything. Temperary relief is, avoid fatty foods like butter, oil, meat. Usually it happens when you eat fatty foods. After my daughter was born in aug 1998, I still used to get more pain and I had the gall bladder removed in feb 1998. They found some small stones in gall bladder and docs say it is very common in pregnancy and removal of gall bladder doesn't harm our body. Hope this helps and check with your doc.

thanks for your replies,
Reddy definitly agree its not going away, unfortunatley i drive a lot for a living ( account manager round London area) and i spend a lot of that day in the car rubbing the area beneath the rib cage. It isnt painful so much as annoying so i guess i will get used to it for now. Doc was really good last week , extremely honest and basically said what you did. But was also concerned about the kidney problem which the antibiotics seem to be clearing. ( havnt had the lower back pain last few days). I think i will take a lead from you though and keep Doc in picture if "pain" from side doesnt go away as i think they will deal with it whilst you are pregnant now if it gets too bad.... i dont really eat fatty goods as i also have Reflux Oesphagitus and am on a non diary and high fibre diet for that, and weight is around average.
really appreciate the response many thanks.
