HSG Result

Post by oneday »

Hi everyone,

I started on this site some 6 weeks ago! Today I had my HSG, and found out that I have one blocked tube, I was most surprised and a little upset, although I know there are plenty of women who give birth with one! It was just a shock! Has anyone out there had or know of anybody in a similar circumstances, that had a successful birth?

I know I'm despondent, but thought my only worries was PCOS!!

Good luck and keep safe

Hi,

You will definitely have a baby one day! In fact, if you choose to go the IVF route - it bypasses all tube function. You don't even need tubes for IVF. But you are correct when you say that plenty of women have been successful in getting pregnant with only one tube. Don't let that get you down at all - you'll get there :D

:D HI ONEDAY

HOPE YOU'RE OK AFTER YOUR NEWS. I WAS GIVEN THE SAME RESULT MYSELF A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO AND REMEMBER FEELING REALLY UPSET AND SHOCKED. LIKE YOU SAY ONE BLOCKED TUBE SHOULDN'T MEAN THE END OF THE WORLD AS FAR AS GETTING PREGNANT GOES BUT I THINK MY REACTION WAS DUE TO THE FACT I WAS WATCHING THE SCREEN AS THE TEST WAS BEING CARRIED OUT. IT WAS MY FIRST TEST AND MADE EVERYTHING SEEM REAL. ANYWAY STAY POSSITIVE YOU'LL BE FINE , WHATS THE NEXT STEP FOR YOU??

TAKE CARE

Just to offer another perspective - my first HSG two years ago revealed that both tubes were completely blocked. I remember how awful it felt. It took me a long time to get over it. I had surgery to unblock both tubes. I had another HSG in Oct 05 that showed my right tube still open and my left tube blocked again. My one open tube is probably too damaged to ever work. It certainly hasn't so far.

I guess my point is that at least you still have one open (presumably undamaged?) tube. I would be thrilled with that. And if it fails to work - feel lucky that we have so many options to help us achieve pregnancy. It will happen for you. Good luck!

Hi All,

Many thanks for your words of encouragement and support, as always I leave this site re-energised and excited with the prospect of being a mum 'oneday'!

Our next step is to return to consultant to discuss blood test and HSG result......but I'm on holiday as from Sunday......Malaysia. So will return to appointment in 4-6 weeks.

Take care

Hi Oneday
Hope you have a great hol,
And just wanted to reiterate like the others that you have great chances! Think of the good progress in now finally knowing what the problem are, so you can address them specifically, and no longer have to worry why things arent working! You still have one functioning tube, and there are other options for the blocked tube, maybe micro surgery is a possiblity and if not this route, then those with blocked tubes have a very good success rate with IVF

I know how you feel! After years of trying I had surgery and discovered I had 2 blocked tubes, kind of felt relieved at finally knowing and broken at the same time! Tubal repair surgery failed to help me get pregnant, but I just conceived from my first frozen embryo transfer with IVF. The waiting and getting through is hard! But theres no question you WILL get there! Heaps and heaps of people have had tubal damage and things have worked out  Heaps of luck and baby dust to you.

Hi Oneday

I was diagnosed with 2 blocked tubes about 10 years ago and told then I wouldn't have children which devistated me and in part caused the end of my relationship. 18 months ago I had another HSG and was told that one tube was now open and the other blocked, don't know how that happened. Last year they operated to open up the other tube and we are now trying IUI. So keep up your spirits. Tubes can be unblocked nowdays.

Take care

Angela

Hi One Day

I did the HSG thing back in early Jan. Only to find that I had both tubes blocked. I was fed up but then i realised that you have to pick yourself up and then be determined to do something about it. As we are all trying to do..........

They have sent me straight to ivf given my age. But they also said that i could have surgery later to try to get me unblocked if the ivf does not work.

There are lots of options especially if you have one tube that works. :)

Good Luck. Stay positive.
