Not very positive!!

Post by Corinna »

Hi Girlies.

Just wanted to to ask a few questions and let off a bit of steam.

DH and I are starting ICSI in July. Now we have enough dosh for a few attempts, we are finally going for it. Feel like we've been waiting for this forever! Just waiting for our appointment to come thru.
I am 30 and DH is 38.

I have started taking Marilyn Glenvilles fertility + vitamins and DH has started taking Wellman (to improve his count). We both smoke & drink, but have drastically cut down from 20 cigs a day to 5 or less.
We both have a pretty healthy diet (I lost 3 stone on slimming world recently) and neither of us are overweight. I have also stopped drinking coffee and will only have a couple of glasses on wine at the weekend.

I feel like I am doing all I can, but I can't help feeling that its not gonna work. I already have a 13 year old daughter from a previous relationship. I then had 2 ectopics about 6 years ago. I also have a few small cysts on my ovaries, but been told that they shouldn't give me any problems (but you never know, do you?). I feel like the odds are really stacked against us. I also noticed on a previous post that someone mentioned "Hydro-something" (like a toxin in your tubes that stops the embie from sticking). Could I have that cos of my ectopics? What should I ask the consultant at the clinic??

Also, I was diganosed with PID about 7 years ago which kn*ckered my tubes and caused the ectopics. As far as I am aware, I have nothing on the left side and half a tube on the right. Do you think my PID will decrease my chances of a pregnancy. Does anyone know??

I don't have endometriosis (at least I don't think so), but should I ask them to test me for this too?? Aaaarrrgh!! Going slightly mad!!

Sorry for the million questions. I am just worried that the clinic are gonna find about a million things wrong with me and tell me that I haven't got a hope in hell of the treatment working. Just my luck...

Thanks

Dear Corinna,

it is great that you and Dh are getting healthy for your treatment. With IVF i think ectopics are rarer as the embie is implanted into the uterus and does not have the trial of travelling down your tube(where they get stuck resulting in the ectopic).

Share all your fears with your dr as they should give you clear answers.
The nearer you get to treatment the more you and dh should concentrate on giving up smoking. My clinic banned me from all smoky environments as it is cigarette smoke that destroys your eggs. So no going to the pub ar even sitting next to someone who had ducked outside for a smoke. It was most important during the stimulation period when you are brewing them!

You have just as much chance as anyone else to get pregnant and you have been there before so know it can happen. Just keep up the pma!
