Don't know what to do for the best!

Post by Kyla »

Hi there...... I'm due to start again in July after receiving a BFN in March, so have decided to take a couple of months off. My hosptial have just called me to say they want to try me on a different drug, Gonal F. I have used Menupor twice for my last two cycle, 1st abandoned due to no follies and the second one I only produced two but those two did fertilise and they got me to the 2ww stage but unfortunately it was negaitive.

My FSH last month was 4.6 which is good and for the last two attempts I was on a short protocol, second one I also used cetritide, something happened because I did respond, only 2 but it's better than nothing.

My questions is would you change drugs from Menupor to Gonal F, looking at my history. I'm 36, right tube gone, left one remaining, husband is fine.

You ladies are the best!

Hiya Kyla,

I've not had any treatment yet (starting ICSI in July), but I would go with your clinics advice. If they feel that a different drug will make a difference, go with it.

Also, have you thought about trying accupuncture while stimming and after ET?? There are loads of past posts on this site (and others too) discussing accu. Its meant to really improve your chances! Apparentely, it helps with the blood flow around the uterus which gives your embies a better chance of sticking! I am definately going to give it a try when I start ICSI!! I'll try anything to get that BFP!!! :D :D :D

Good luck!!

I just did a cycle on Gonal F. Let me tell you my background a little before.

I am 33 and I have medical issues with reproduction. I had a tubal ligation after my son was born in 1995. Other then that all my tests and Scans were all normal.

I started a cycle with Lupron and Gonal F on March 9th.

I just had my EC yesterday and I ended up with 17 Mature eggs.
5 of which we donated to research. I got a call this morning and I have 9 out of 12 fertilized eggs.

I have nothing to compare it to as this is my very first IVF cycle. But Gonal F seemed to do what it was suppose to do.

Have a great day!

Hope I was of some help.

Danielle :D

HI KYLA

YOUR POST COMPLETELY BAFFLED ME!! - CANT SEE WHY YOU HAD SUCH A POOR RESPONSE WITH SUCH A LOW FSH LEVEL. HOW MUCH GONAL F WERE YOU TAKING?

WITH MY AGE (43) AND THE FACT THAT I AM SLOW TO RESPOND TO STIMS I AM ALWAYS ON A HIGH DOSE OF MENOPUR 600IUI PER DAY!!
WHEN I MENTIONED TO MY CLINIC ABOUT TRYING ANOTHER STIM DRUG THEY SAID THAT MENOPUR WAS BEST FOR SOMEONE MY AGE AND A SLOW RESPONDER. I AM TRYING THE SHORT PROTOCOL WITH CETROTIDE NEXT - BUT GOING BY YOUR EXPERIENCE I AM A LITTLE WORRIED. HOW MUCH GONAL F WERE YOU TAKING?

Thanks for your replies........ not sure what your name is but hi to 032323, I was originally on Menopur, high dosage the same as you but on my second attempt i done this with Cetritide and kept on it for a further week and still only produced two follies, my hospital also said that Menopur is better for people that don't respond too well but I have only ever produced two follies in two cycles which to me is pretty sad!.... so the nurse said when we were using menopur last time why don't we try Gonal F because I might respond differently to that drug, I really don't see why I don't respond because like you say my FSH is low, I'm healthy and doing most I can via Zita West's book!!, buti just don't know what to do for the best. It cost us last time for the drugs alone £900.00 and Gonal F is more expensive than Menopur at the hospital I go to !!. I just wish I could respond, everything else if fine, lining, etc etc..... it's just not fair:-(......

i was on Gonal F for my first attempt and had 23 eggs collected. obviously this was a lot in one go and i developed OHSS and had to abandon the cycle and go for a total freeze of the 18 that fertilised.

i've since had 4 FETs and am about to start my second lot of "egg making". they're putting me on Menopur because of my history so i assume i'm less likely to respond so strongly.

hope this helps a little. best of luck to you.
