First scan after 2WW- what to expect?

Post by anamika »

Hi everyone,

First of all sorry for posting this question again- ( i had this question in the general forum as well)

I am new to this forum and in need of advice. We went through 3rd ICSI in March 2006. ( Last period – 02/19, Egg retrieval 03/06, Day 5 blastocysts transfer 03/11 Grade 1 AA and Grade 2BB embryos). Lab work results showed positive pregnancy results on 03/21 and successive lab works showed good HCG numbers. Today (04/04) had first ultrasound. The doctor said, he was expected to see the embryo and heartbeat, but could only see a sac. He asked me to come back for another ultrasound on Monday 04/10. Is this common? What does this mean? I have started to feel negative and little scary. Is anyone else in my situation.. any information is appreciated. Thanks for listening and help in advance,

anamika,

I had my first scan at 7 weeks 2 days and was able to see a heartbeat. My clinic says that before the seven week mark you may or may not see one. According to my not so scientific calculations you should be just over 6 weeks - too early to say about a heartbeat!! Have faith that your HCG numbers are strong and that your baby is just teaching you patience :D . I realllly would not worry at this point....ha...I know I know...easier said than done! But at least rest assured that 6 weeks IS too early. Do some research on the internet to find out when you should see the heartbeat - because even on the 10th when you go for your second scan - still might be too early. Research!! And I'm sure that there are other ladies on here that might have more details on when the heartbeat will be seen definitely.

Good luck - let us know how it goes - praying for you!!

We only saw sac at 6 weeks and went back at 8 weeks to see heartbeat. Don't worry - sounds like your doc was a bit over anxious - my clinic don't even try to see heartbeat before 8 weeks cos it's too hard to see

Best of luck, congrats
