IVF questions

Post by TansRN »

Hello guys
You guys have a great board here and I have learned a lot just from reading all of your postings. I am new to this whole thing and I see that many of you are on BCP's....is this necessary? my doctor said he wasnt going to put me on them, he just wants to start with the depo lupron shot. I have been trying to figure this out. I have to call tomorrow (monday) and see when i have to give that one.

Also I was wondering how long I should really lay flat after the transfer? Do you guys have any ideas about it....

We are doing IVF with ICSI and TESA and I am so nervous and I feel like none of my friends or family can understand what it is like and what it is about. Its good to come here to see what is going on with you guys-best luck to all of you who are trying and hopefully many babies!!!

Hi Tanya and welcome to the world of IVF. As far as BCPs - my clinic put me on them, but a lot of doctors don't. Everyone's case is different. I would just trust what your doctors tell you.

After my ET - I was instructed to take it easy for 48 hrs, and stay home from work for 72 hrs. And no sex for the entire 2ww! I took it upon myself to lay on the couch for 2 full days - only getting up to use the bathroom. On the 3rd day I stayed home and moved around some, but took it easy. I usually work out (jogging mostly) about 3 times a week and I completely stopped that and avoided any strenous activity during the whole 2ww. I ended up with a BFP - so i am happy with what I did. Obviously - millions of women still get pregnant while staying just as active as they were. I think IVF doctors like us to lay around because we are going thru so much to get pregnant they figure every little bit helps.

Good luck to you!! :)

Hi Tanya,

I am in michigan and considering IVF too, just want to know where you are taking your IVF treatment, and how much did they say it will cost.
Please give me some details as I am still in the process of finding out where to go for IVF.

I really appreciated your reply.

Thank you,
Mintoo

Hello Mintoo

I go to IVF michigan. They have several offices and they have good prices. I am have icsi and tesa done as well due to dh having a vasectomy but I go to the ann arbor office. Where are you located? I have a whole list I can send you if you would like. I prepared a list...Anyhow for everything out of pocket it will be $11,000 and that includes all of my procedures as well as the medications. I know that there is a clinic in grand rapids that will do it for a little less than that-but I dont know the particulars. Let me know if you need anything else.

Tanya,

To answer your questions from the 11th - My clinic had me take aspirin (low dose) and recommended that I take it clear thru my first trimester. However, I had nosebleeds and started bleeding a lot with my progesterone shots about 2 weeks ago - so my doctor told me to stop taking it. I have heard it helps with blood flow to the uterus - which aids in implantation. There is also evidence that it can help prevent miscarriage. However, the doctor acted like it was no big deal if I didn't take it anymore.

About the HPTs - I took two First Response tests and one Clearblue Easy the night before I was due to take my blood test. They all came back positive. They tested positive 13 days past collection, 8 days past transfer. This was just my experience - if you read some old posts on these boards - you will see that a lot of women get false negative results and get all upset over nothing - that is why a lot of women claim they are evil. I wasn't going to take one but my friends and sister talked me into it. If you do - I would wait until a day or two before your scheduled blood test - no sooner that way you have better chance of getting an accurate result.

Good luck!! :D
