Waiting HCG Levels

Post by klor »

Hello All~

I hate to be nervous, as I am sure so many of you are. But I had my BFP on 5/15  with a HCG level reading at 419. My next reading was Wednesday, 5/17 and my reading was 694. Because it didn't double, my clinic brought me back on Friday. Although the nurse assured me that the fact the HCG is increasing is a good sign, I wish I could say it doubled. Now I am sitting on pins and needles waiting the phone call.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Thanks

My Doctor told me that HCG levels doubled every 48-72 Hours during the first few weeks.. So that would have given you an extra day to get the last littly bit you needed! I think MLG had a low HCG experiance. Keep your chin up and try not to worry. I am sure your going to be fine!

Hi Klor,

My doctor's office told me 66% increase in 48 hours is still normal.
I started with really low level 62 (16dpo).
Let us know how it went today.

Hello All - thank you for your responses. I just got my reading and I went up exactly 66% to 1153. Even though this is still considered "normal", they would like me to come in for an early ultrasound next Friday (MORE WAITING!!). My fear is an ecoptic pregnancy????

Thanks for your support!

Just wanted to wish you luck. I know several people who had a vanishing twin early in pregnancy (very common) and that's causes hcg levels to increase more slowly.
I had an ectopic and had aching very early on right where the ectopic was. Ofcourse noone could find it and told me it was nml pains!! Anyway, I digress, my point is I did feel some discomfort as early as 6 weeks and it was always in the same spot! With ectopics hcg numbers usually start out with normal doubling times and then slow down later on. It you did IVF and haven't had a prior ectopic your chances are lower for ectopic. Just think mid uterus implantation thoughts!
How far along are you? I've got my 12 week scan on Thu and am going crazy with that so I can imagine how hard this waiting must be for you. Try and find calming/distracting things to do and I'll bet everything will go really well. (I'm great at giving advice...not so good at acting on it!) :D

Hi Klor

I had 31 HcG on day 14 and 62 on day 17 - besides being really low levels they only doubled in 3 days and not 2. :?
Then all was fine on 8 week scan! :) :D  :D :)
Please try not to worry, everybody is different and "normal" numbers are only averages.

Thank You for your respsonses and putting my mind at ease!! This entire process is nerve racking and the waiting is terrible! I have never had an ectopic and don't feel much discomfort with the exception of some lingering bloating. I guess my nerves are getting the better of me despite trying not to think about it. I figure I am a little over 5 weeks along and have my first ultra sound scheduled for Friday, 5/26.

Hi Klor,

Hope your managing to keep your stress levels low. The numbers are only a guideline and the range is vast. Yours sound like they are rising well so try not to worry too much. My EPU told me that big numbers don't necessarily meaning all will be fine. They know of plenty of women who had low numbers for their dates who ended up with healthy babies at the end. It's a waiting game I'm afraid. Sometimes I feel that all the knowledge we have is a bad thing... the more we know, the more we worry and compare... :?

Anyway, hope all is well

Wow, this was just the discussion I was looking for. I got a BFN on Wednesday!!! The beta level was 78. Went back Friday for the 2nd beta, which came back 120. The nurse said it wasn't as big an increase as they would have liked, but that some women are slow starters. I go back on Monday for a 3rd beta.

I'm glad to see that some of you had a similar situation and everything turned out okay. I've got my fingers crossed that everything will look good on Monday.

Best wishes!

Hi Klor and Lauralou

Just to reassure you re beta levels. Mine were 52 (day 13 I think) and 81 2 days later. The nurse at my clinic was a bit cautious but everything since in my pregnancy went fine and I now a beautiful baby girl.

My levels didnt even go up 66% at first!

Take care
