Finally Home

Post by michelle_in_scotland »

Hi Girls,
I finally got out of hospital this afternoon with little Kady.
I went in on Thursday afternoon to be induced but after an internal they said i looked "favourable" and decided not to give me the tablets to start me off, they wanted me to wait overnight to see if i'd go myself. Unfortunately nothing happened so they broke my waters at 9am on Friday morning, by 10am nothing much was still happening so they hooked me up to the drip to get things going. All i can say was it was awful. I couldn't have the water birth i'd hoped for but instead was stuck on a bed hooked up to a monitor and the drip. It made the contractions come hard and fast. To cut a long story short, by 10pm i was still only 5cm dilated and the baby's head was starting to pull, they said they could leave me but it wouldn't do much good or they could just take me down for a c-section. After labouring for 12hrs and getting nowhere i just decided to have the section as i was in so much pain.
Little Kady was finally born on Friday 26th May at 11.11pm weighing in at 8lb 6oz and 21cm long. She has a full head of really dark hair and is the most gorgeous little thing i've ever seen in my life. She has made everything we've been through worth it.
I can hear her starting to stir now so better go.
I'll post again soon when i can.
Take care all,
Lotsa love

Michelle & Kady

Michelle, a thousand congratulations old cycle buddy! Kady sounds gorgeous and fingers crossed will settle into a nice routine (I loved Gina Ford's) for you very soon.

Your birth story is nearly word for word the same as mine, except I was only 2cm after 12hrs and the heartbeat was showing signs of distress. I spent a while being a bit miserable about it all, having wanted a natural birth if possible to make up for the unnatural conception. It took a few months to shake off but now....it doesn't make the blind bit of difference and I even found myself explaining to DD why mummy has a big scar on her tummy. We're starting with the birds and the bees mighty early over here!

Congratulations again, well done and enjoy your baby!
hugs
Debra.

congratulations Michelle. I'm figuring its not worth me having a birth plan, I don't know anyone who has had the birth they wanted! As long as they arrive safely, thats what matters.

I love the name Kady! thats gorgeous.

Hi girls,
Thanks for all your congratulation messages.
Kady is now 10 days old and is such a good baby. She is such a contented wee thing, i've read that babies don't smile until they are a good few weeks old, well, she definately smiles now.
I'm breastfeeding and in hospital was all ready to give up, she just wasn't latching on, sometimes it took a good couple hours of trying and it was starting to get to me, but since being home it's a dream, she latches on practically straight away. I think it might be because i'm more relaxed at home so that probably makes her more relaxed?? She practically sleeps through the night already, has her last feed around 1am and sleeps through til about 6am, so i'm pleased about that.

I had my last midwife home visit today, the little cord clamp thingy finally fell off on Saturday so because that's happened the midwife has now released me over to the Health Visitors. They are pleased with Kady's progress, she's steadily putting on weight and is almost back up to her birth weight.

I've just started a web page for her, got as far as adding a little text but mostly photos just now. Here's a link to it if you want a look at her photos

http://www.babiesonline.com/babies/k/kady260506/

She's now letting me know it's dinner time so better go.
Take care,
Lotsa love
