Sedation with Egg Collection

Post by Emma27 »

When i started this current cycle i was advised that the hospital that i am at not longer offers the choice of either being sedated or being asleep for the egg collection. Last time i was alseep for the egg collection and i am a little anxious about only being sedated, has anyone else had sedation only and how was the experience??

Emma, pls dont worry, for my first 3 attempts i was only sedated
and on my 4th attempt (change clinics) i had a general.
being sedate to be honest i cant remember much as i was so groggy
and was not aware of what was going on around me, and the
positive side is your recovery is a lot quicker.
good luck alison

As Alisonn said, pls don't worry.
I was completely terrified before my ec as I couldn't possibly understand how they were going to remove eggs from my body AND i was going to be awake!!
I don't remember being in any pain whatsoever and was up and about two hours later. I do remeber being told how many eggs they has collected and at that point felt the most drunk I have ever been, but honestly it was easy.
Please stop worrying right now and look forward to the next step in your treatment. You will look back and wonder what you were worrying about.
I wish you all the luck in the world.

I too was v worried about only being sedated. I knew that I had a lot of follies for them to remove as well.

I can honestly say that I can recall getting on the bed and chatting away and then next thing that I knew I was being moved back onto the bed to be wheeled back to recovery. Obviously asking - so how many!

I knew nothing about it at all and was up and walking around within like 1 hour. Dh could not believe that I looked fine when I came out.

Felt sore afterwards but we were lucky enough to have 13 eggs so I did not care.

Good Luck. Hope that EC goes really well for you.

The clinic here uses some sort of pain medication delivered via intravenous. They told me that if I feel any pain just let them know and they'll give me medication. They said that about 50% of women never ask for any. I asked for a bit - but overall it wasn't painful. I was fully alert for the whole thing and walked out of the hospital about an hour later. I felt a bit nauseated afterwards but nothing more.

Emma,

Congrats on the follies!! Good luck to you and get plenty of rest.

Sedation for me was fine too. I woke up right after and got dressed and went home to rest.

Please dont worry. Everything will be fine.
