How soon is too soon to test?

Hello everyone.
I had a retrieval on 5/22 and transfer on 5/27. Today I went to the hospital for something un-related but they did a urine test and it showed a negative pregnancy test.
My question is, how soon is too soon to take a urine test? I am trying to think positive because my blood test is not until Monday 6/5, but I can not stop thinking about the "your not pregnant" line from the doctor today.
I am not sure how to think about this... I am only 5 days past my transfer so is that what I go by or do I go by my retrieval date which would make me 10 days past(ovulation)??
I would like to think that since the embryos were not transfered until the 27th it would take a little more than 5 days to show up?????

NO! Don't go nuts! 5 days post transfer is WAY too early to test. Apparently the embryo takes 6-8 days to implant, and only 2 days after that does your body start producing HcG which is the thing which indicates positive/negative in urine, and even then it needs quite a few days to rise to the levels dectable by a HPT. They do blood tests because HcG levels show up much earlier in blood than in urine. In the 'real' world, we wouldn't be testing until, say, 1 week after a missed period, which is around 21 days after ovulation, and the HPTs are designed for that market!

I am currently 8 days post transfer myself and trying to avoid the inevitable disappointment of testing too early!

Sofia is exactly right!! Don't think much about that test today. It's way too early. My RE waits 17 days after the transfer. There's reasons why they wait that long...and they don't want to test early to avoid a wrong result. So certainly 5 days after transfer is much too early. Sofia also makes a good point about urine vs blood too.

Thank you for your replies. My DH came home and asked what was wrong, of course I broke down and could not hold it in about what happened. He pretty much said the same thing KristiA said, there is a reason why the RE office did not tell me to come in today to test and have me coming in Monday.....

I now have to keep that focus until Monday and try to enjoy my weekend. I have felt really positive about this whole thing so far, and today I don't know what happened
