First timer here...and a guy!

Post by Valera546 »

Hey everyone,

I already posted once at the "Intro" forums. BUt I thought I would get to know everyone over here. My name is Ramon and I am a 30 year old male. My wife is 28. We are currently just started our 2nd cycle. Our first was unsuccessful due to a Hydrosalpinix(sp?). Since then, she's gotten that tube ligated. The first time, she only produced 7 follicles and only 3 eggs fertilized. This time they upped the her meds a bit and she produced 37 follicles, which resulted in 31 eggs that were retrieved yesterday, 6/8/06. 21 survived and as of today, we know that 17 fertilized! Much better results.

Tomorrow will be our day three, but I think that with 17 fertilized, hopefully there will be some strong ones that can make it to the blastocyst
stage on day 5 (Tuesday). We are so excited and can wait to get the buns in the over, so to speak. I'll keep you updated as we go along.

Thanks and I look forward to getting to know you!

Best of luck. With 17 fertilized, you have excellent chances. There should be enough extra for freezing in case the fresh cycle fails.

Not many of us guys on this board.

Well we got the call this morning that most of the embryos made to day 3, and that since they are doing great, transfer will be on Tuesday. We will most likely have the option to freeze some for future use. I'm getting excited!

Debs,

Our doctor told us that while she did find a hydro, she decided to drain it during the retrieval and then put the embryos in on day to try the least invasive way first. We knew there was a chance that it would not work. Once the first cycle failed, our dooctor went back in and saw that the tube was again filled and calculated that this was the reason along with the fact that we only had 3 embryos to put back in on day 3. One was a 4 cell, one was a 6, and the last was an 8.

Later today, we are going in for our day 5 transfer. We are putting in 2 Blastocysts! Hopefully one or both will take this time. Good luck with your Hydro.

Hi there,
thank you for your reply, i am in for my ER today they are going to drain my fluid too...so cross my fingers it works out..
i really hope you get your little mirrical this time, i was just surprised they told you this was the reason as my clinic keep saying there is no evidence that it has any thing to do with failuer also there are women on this board who have hydros and are pregnant.. it would be nice to know for sure but in this game who knows anything 100%

day 6 xfr?

Post by racquel »

Hi Ramon, welcome to the boards! This is a great place for questions and support. My doc prepared us for either day 3 or day 5 xfr and ended up going with the day 3 - not sure it's a "bad" thing to wait longer, the embies are just more developed at that point. I've personally never heard of day 6 but doesn't surprise me - there's so much we only hear about after we've experienced it or know what questions to ask.

I'm sure there are others who have more experience with this who will be able to let you know. Sounds like you'll have some embies to freeze and have available for future tries if you need which is great!

Take care, Racquel

hi ramon,

i had a day 5 blasto transfer last wed. we transfered 2 embies. they freezed another one that ended up being a day 6 blast. so, if this fresh cycle doesn't work out for us, we will be doing a FET on the day 6 blast. from what i understand, day 6 blast is very close to hatching out of it's shell and be in its natural environment. the embroylogist was happy with the quality of the day 6 blast to freeze it. so i am sure that is a good sign.

not sure if that helps. but good luck!
