Is this unusual?

Post by Hopeful in Indiana »

I was just wondering (for those who have done IVF more than once), was it not as "exciting" for you? I remember the first time I was so excited, I cried during the transfer, stared at my embryos for days, put them in a picture frame, shared them with everyone, etc. This time I did not cry, have only looked at my pics a handful of times, and have only shared the pics with one other person. Is this a normal reaction b/c it did not work the first time? Do others go through this same thing???

I feel the same way. I was so, so excited during my first cycle. I talked about it to everyone. I also put the embryo picture in a frame and looked at it constantly. I was so convinced that it was going to work and I would finally be pregnant. When I had a m/c at five weeks I was completely devasted.

I feel different this time. I am really trying to feel excited but I am much more cautious. I don't want to get my hopes up. I think it's natural to be less excited on your second try, as you know that it may not work. We are trying to protect ourselves from getting hurt again.

Good luck with this cycle. I hope it works for you this time.

You couldn't be more right. My first cycle I was so sure it would work. We were always lead to believe it was more of a problem of my husbands and that IVF would be a slam dunk. How UNTRUE! When I got the BFN on my October cycle I was devasted. Even more so was having to share the news with all those I had blabbed at for the months leading up to it. We even put the embryo picture on the fridge. This time - not too many people even know we went through it. I couldn't even tell you where the embryo pictures are and I am much more secluded. I have the 9th marked on the calendar for my blood draw and NO ONE knows that is the day. I think it is just an easier way for me to deal with it whether the outcome is positive or negative. We all know there are no words that can heal you after you get the BFN. Good luck in your cycle and I will be thinking of you!

Hi, i tried to rein in any hopes each time to achieve a kind of limbo state, managed to survive 2BFNs then 2 BFPs followed by 2early mcs and then one glorious pregnancy and birth. My theory is do what you need to do to get through it wont effect the outcome and dont fret about other peoples feelings you have enough your plate already
good luck Annie
