Mm Mandy - now there's a thought. Of course with a homebirth I am presuming they can't give you the antibiotics you would have in hospital if it's found you're positive for Strep B? Or can they? Would check this with your midwife. If they can then great. If not, then I'd discuss the realities for Strep B with your midwife before making an informed choice.
It's my understanding that it's rare for anything to happen to the baby, but they suggest the antibiotics as a precaution. I've never really considered the possibility that the drugs may not be possible due to something as a homebirth so I don't know the numbers I'm afraid.
If the risks are v.minimal and your midwife reccomends, I'd stick with your plan. Ask what would happen though if the baby shows signs of being in danger due to Strep B. What do they do? How long will whatever they do take to take effect etc. This should all help in the decision making process.

Sorry that probably wasn't much help!!!! Best of luck!
